AJ McCarron won two national titles at Alabama as its starting quarterback (and a third as a reserve), and although he’s moved on and is now in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, he will still have a presence in Tuscaloosa.

A presence in the form of a sushi restaurant.

Yes, McCarron is now the co-owner of a new sushi restaurant in town called AJian Sushi, a play on McCarron’s name.

“You walk into our fast-casual atmosphere and you’ll design your own roll every time,” Pete Zimmer, McCarron’s co-owner and the man who will run the restaurant, told The Crimson White. “At the hit of a button we’ll have white or brown rice, and from there you’ll pick your proteins, vegetables, toppings and sauces for close to $8 a roll.”

Zimmer got involved with McCarron through McCarron’s Cincinnati teammate, Michael Johnson. Johnson liked the idea of Zimmer’s restaurant and told him McCarron might be interested. After passing along the idea, McCarron got in touch with Zimmer, and here we are.

The restaurant is scheduled to open on June 1. No word on whether or not California Roll Tides will be on the menu.
