The 2025 college football spring transfer portal officially opened Wednesday, and the most notable name to enter is Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava. He made national headlines by skipping practice in the midst of a reported NIL dispute, and the Vols quickly moved on, announcing that he was no longer part of the program shortly before their spring game. The Tennessee football roster now has pleny of eyes on it after coach Josh Heupel confirmed that the Vols will add a quarterback. Will the Vols swing for the fences in finding a quarterback to anchor the 2025 Tennessee football depth chart, or will they be more content to add depth to supplement the young quarterbacks already on campus? Tennessee football roster news

All eyes are on the quarterback position this spring for Tennessee. The Vols have Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre, both former four-star prospects, already on campus. Both were expected to have at least another year to develop before pushing for playing time, however. That timeline has been accelerated after Iamaleava's departure.

The spring transfer market generally isn't as robust as the winter one, but with quarterbacks knowing the opportunity and the potential NIL upside at Tennessee, it will be interesting to see if the Vols are able to find a starting-caliber option.

Receiver is another spot to monitor. The Vols lost key contributors Bru McCoy, Dont'e Thornton Jr. and Squirrel White from last year's roster. They made just one addition, Amari Jefferson from Alabama, during the first portal cycle. Get more Tennessee football roster updates at GoVols247
