Draft Scouting Report
Josaiah Stewart is a high-energy, two-point stance edge rusher built in the classic mold. He relentlessly attacks the outside shoulder of offensive tackles, using a sharp crossover move with a chop to counter inside. His slightly thick frame allows him to surprise blockers with speed-to-power conversion and competent edge-setting ability, though he could benefit from adding lower-body mass and overall strength at the next level.
As a pass rusher, Stewart’s arsenal is solid but unspectacular. He flashes a swipe move but primarily wins with explosive first-step quickness and sustained speed around the edge. His inside-out move is efficient, and while he has just enough tools to keep tackles guessing, he’ll need to refine his hand usage in the NFL. His bend and dip rank among the best in the class, giving him a natural advantage in flattening to the quarterback.
Against the run, Stewart can get washed out at times, but his relentless motor helps him maximize his impact when working inside. While not a flawless prospect, his well-built frame, sudden movement skills and relentless approach make him a dangerous pass-rushing specialist who will bring immediate juice to an NFL defense.
- Two-time All-Big Ten (second team in 2024 and honorable mention in 2023) after transferring from Coastal Carolina
- 2024: Led Michigan with 13.0 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and two forced fumbles
- Immense burst off the ball
- Borderline elite-level bend/dip skills en route to the quarterback
- Plus speed-to-power conversation and high motor
- Needs to develop his hand work
- Some teams may view him to be undersized to routinely play in running situations
- Can get washed out at point of attack on run plays

Rams' Josaiah Stewart: Joins Rams
The Rams selected Stewart in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 90th overall.
A Michigan product by way of Coastal Carolina, Stewart is an interesting test case between production vs tools. In four seasons, Stewart had 47 tackles for loss and 30.0 sacks. He is also small for an edge at 6-foot-1 and 249 pounds with 32-inch arms. The Rams have seemingly found their groove in identifying defensive talent in recent drafts, though.
