The Red Wings acquired Simek and a seventh-round 2024 pick from San Jose in exchange for Klim Kostin on Friday.
Simek has spent all season with AHL San Jose, scoring four times while adding 12 assists in 40 games. He has 209 NHL games under his belt, giving Detroit some depth on their blue line if they need to call him up at some point down the stretch.
