Tigers' Javier Baez: Not starting Game 2
Baez isn't in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Pirates, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Baez continued his recent hot streak by going 2-for-4 and scoring a run in the first game of the twin bill, and he'll get a chance to catch his breath during the evening contest. While he rests, Trey Sweeney will start at shortstop and bat ninth for the Tigers.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Goes deep twice in win
Baez went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Pirates.
Baez continued his bounce-back campaign as he recorded his second multi-homer game of the season and first since May 13. The veteran now has nine long balls this year to go with a strong .798 OPS. By comparison, Baez had only six home runs during the 2024 regular season, and he finished with a career-worst .515 OPS. The 32-year-old might not be as electric as he was during his time with the Cubs when he first broke into the majors, but he has still recouped plenty of fantasy value so far in 2025.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Huge performance in win
Baez went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, two RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 11-5 win over the Reds.
Baez was a thorn in the Reds' side all game, falling a triple short of the cycle while homering for the first time since May 16. Though the 32-year-old entered Friday without an extra-base hit in June, he's now hit safely in nine of 11 games this month. He's slashing .284/.314/.443 with seven home runs, 33 RBI, 29 runs scored and one stolen base in what continues to be a surprisingly resurgent campaign.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Hitting bench Wednesday
Baez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Though his playing time in the outfield has dried up following the recent returns of Wenceel Perez and Parker Meadows from the injured list, Baez has seen more work at shortstop of late while the struggling Trey Sweeney has started to get phased out of the lineup. Zach McKinstry will get the nod at shortstop Wednesday, but Baez drew the previous two starts at the position.

Tigers' Javier Baez: On bench again Friday
Baez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.
It's Baez's second straight game on the bench as Wenceel Perez receives a third consecutive start in center field for Detroit. Baez appears to be falling back into more of a part-time role after serving as the Tigers' primary center fielder for most of May. The 32-year-old started the month with a 1.050 OPS in his first 11 games of May, but he's fallen into a 5-for-31 slump over the past couple weeks.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Out of Wednesday's lineup
Baez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
After posting a 1.128 OPS over a 16-game stretch from April 26 to May 16, Baez is batting .167 (5-for-30) over his past 10 contests. The veteran infielder has been operating as Detroit's primary center fielder, but he has more competition at the position after the activation of Wenceel Perez (back), who is making his second straight start in center Wednesday.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Ejected Monday
Baez was ejected from Monday's game against the Giants in the fifth inning after arguing balls and strikes with the home plate umpire, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Baez will finish Monday's contest 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts. Matt Vierling replaces Baez in center field. Baez is 20-for-73 (.274) with five home runs in May.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Taking seat Monday
Baez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
Baez will cede his spot in the lineup to Akil Baddoo, who gets the nod in left field while Riley Greene shifts over to Baez's usual spot in center. The eventual returns of Matt Vierling (shoulder), Wenceel Perez (back) and Parker Meadows (arm) will make it tougher for Baez to see consistent playing time in the outfield, but the 32-year-old has certainly done his part thus far to continue seeing regular starts. Baez has maintained a .283/.309/.604 slash line thus far in May, and his .811 OPS on the season represents his best mark since 2021.

Baez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.
Baez continued his strong recent play as he recorded his sixth home run of the season, all of which have come over his last 12 games. For the season, the veteran is now sporting an impressive .307 batting average and .855 OPS. By comparison, Baez batted just .184 during the 2024 regular season with a .515 OPS. The OPS was a new career low.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Comes up big Tuesday
Baez went 2-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, three total runs scored and six RBI in Tuesday's 10-9 win over the Red Sox in extra innings.
Baez delivered a three-run shot in the sixth inning, and then picked a great time to record his first multi-homer game of the season. The veteran went deep with two runners on again in the bottom of the 11th, erasing a two-run deficit and sending the Tigers home with a win. After a disappointing 2024 campaign, Baez has been much improved in 2025, as he now has a .319 batting average and .870 OPS through 34 games. He's doing this while also getting used to playing center field for the first time in his career, making his offensive output that much more impressive.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Sitting Saturday
Baez is not in Saturday's lineup against the Rangers.
Baez will sit for the second time in the last three games, though that isn't performance related. He's hit .351 with 14 RBI and 11 runs scored across his last 10 games, but Jace Jung will nevertheless enter the lineup and man third base.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Idle for nightcap
Baez isn't in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Rockies.
After going 2-for-5 with an RBI and scoring a run during a 10-2 win in Game 1, Baez will get a chance to rest his legs during the final game of the day. Brewer Hicklen will start in center field instead, making his season debut while batting ninth.
