Player Outlook
The first season of Andrew Benintendi's five-year, $75 million contract with the White Sox couldn't have gone much worse. Benintendi managed to hit just five home runs and post a .356 slugging percentage over 621 plate appearances, and a woeful 27 percent hard-hit rate confirms that he made some of the weakest contact in baseball. Among 133 qualifiers, Benintendi ranked 123rd with his .682 OPS. To make matters worse, his defense in left field went from below average to borderline unplayable. Whether it was a display of unwavering loyalty or simply a lack of other options, manager Pedro Grifol continued to run Benintendi out there every day and rarely had him batting lower than second. With the White Sox in rebuild mode and four more years left of his deal, Benintendi should continue to be an everyday guy. His high contact rate makes him a solid bet for average, but he has little else going for him.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Third homer of June

Benintendi went 1-for-3 with two walks and a two-run home run Tuesday against the Dodgers. Benintendi helped the White Sox get off to a hot start, as he delivered his home run in the first inning. He has been limited to 11 games in June due to an Achilles injury, but Benintendi has enjoyed a productive month by homering three times, driving in five and scoring five runs while also maintaining a .286 batting average. Despite the productive stretch, he still has just a .249 wOBA and 58 wRC+ across 233 plate appearances on the season.

Even with the positive stretch, he's hitting just .203 with 19 RBI and 15 runs scored across 56 games for the season.

Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. The lefty-hitting Benintendi will cede left field to Corey Julks while the Diamondbacks bring southpaw Jordan Montgomery to the hill for the series finale. Since returning from the injured list Wednesday, Benintendi has made two starts and has gone 3-for-6 with a double, two walks and a run.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Receiving day off Saturday

Benintendi is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Returns from IL

The White Sox reinstated Benintendi (Achilles) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Benintendi will return to action following a minimum-length stay on the IL. He completed a pair of rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League prior to being activated, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run and three runs scored. Though he'll be available for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Benintendi won't start, as the White Sox will instead hand Corey Julks the nod in left field. Benintendi should slide back into an everyday role beginning with Thursday's series finale in Seattle.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Set to return Wednesday

Benintendi (Achilles) will be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Wednesday's game versus the Mariners, Daryl Van Schowen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Benintendi played two rehab games with the White Sox's rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate and went 3-for-5 with one home run and two walks. The left Achilles tendinitis that sent Benintendi to the IL at the beginning of June no longer appears to be a concern, so he should regain his role as the team's everyday left fielder.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Starting up rehab in Arizona

Benintendi (Achilles) will begin a rehab assignment Monday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Benintendi landed on the 10-day injured list June 2 with left Achilles tendinitis but looks to be tracking toward a short-term stay on the shelf. He'll likely need at least a couple of games in the minors to regain his timing at the plate in addition to proving that he can hold up to a full nine innings in the outfield, but Benintendi may be ready to rejoin the big club at some point later this week during its seven-game road trip.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Set to run Thursday

Manager Pedro Grifol said Thursday that Benintendi (Achilles) will begin a running program Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Grifol also said that Benintendi will take batting practice Thursday in addition to running. The 29-year-old outfielder landed on the injured list Sunday due to left Achilles tendinitis, and how he feels after Thursday could help determine his chances of returning when eligible June 12.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Shut down with Achilles tendinitis

The White Sox placed Benintendi on the 10-day injured list Sunday with left Achilles tendinitis. After hitting a solo home run in his first at-bat in the third inning of Saturday's 4-3 loss to Milwaukee, Benintendi was removed in the bottom of the frame due to the Achilles concern. The fact that Benintendi's injury is being listed as tendinitis rather than a strain bodes well for a short stint on the IL, but the veteran outfielder remains without a clear timeline for a return at this stage. Oscar Colas was called up from Triple-A Charlotte and will start in right field in the series finale in Milwaukee. Colas and Dominic Fletcher will likely be the main beneficiaries from a playing-time standpoint while Benintendi is on the shelf.

Benintendi launched a solo home run off Robert Gasser in the top of the third inning, delivering the White Sox an early 1-0 lead, before leaving the game in the bottom half of the frame. Dominic Fletcher took over in the outfield and more information on Benintendi's status will likely come following the contest.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Cranks two homers in victory

Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and six RBI in Saturday's extra-inning win over the Rays. Benintendi's huge game came out of nowhere -- not only were the two long balls his first two of the campaign, but the multi-hit effort was his first such performance since April 15. The veteran outfielder's power has dropped off dramatically in recent seasons, as he swatted just 10 home runs over 277 contests across 2022 and 2023. Saturday's performance was the sixth multi-homer effort of Benintendi's career, and his six RBI tied a career high, while the walk-off blast was his first as a major-leaguer.
