Moreno started Opening Day and reached base three times while scoring a pair of runs. However, he will yield to Jose Herrera for the second game of the series as Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo looks to get one of his reserves some work early in the season.
Moreno went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers.
In a lineup predominantly made up by minor leaguers and bench players, Moreno was moved up the order and batted third. He recorded two of Arizona's five hits and launched his second Cactus League home run in the sixth inning. The 25-year-old catcher hit mostly in the bottom third of the order in 2024 and is expected to be there again this coming season. He enters 2025 as the Diamondbacks primary backstop and won't be a cipher (.280/.347/.740 career slash) for fantasy rosters.

Moreno started at catcher and went hitless in his lone plate appearance in Friday's spring opener against Colorado.
Moreno, who will be the primary catcher during the regular season, worked with Arizona's big-ticket offseason addition, Corbin Burnes, who praised the backstop's work in their first turn together. Burnes struck out the side and later told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports that he left the pitch calling/sequencing up to Moreno. The catcher was also 2-for-2 on pitch challenges, as MLB experiments with the Automated Ball-Strike System (ABS) this spring.
