Orioles' Seranthony Dominguez: Strong start in setup role
Dominguez picked up a hold Sunday against Toronto after throwing 1.1 clean innings. He struck out one.
Dominguez came on to protect a 4-3 lead with two runners on base in the sixth inning, striking out Bo Bichette on a foul tip to end the frame before retiring the side in the seventh frame. Dominguez has yielded just one hit over seven shutout innings to begin the season, but the right-hander doesn't carry much fantasy value outside of leagues that record holds while closer Felix Bautista is healthy for the Orioles.

Orioles' Seranthony Dominguez: Might see some save chances
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Monday that Dominguez could see save opportunities early on in the season on days Felix Bautista (elbow) is unavailable, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Bautista won't pitch back-to-back days or throw more than one inning at a time initially in his first season back from Tommy John surgery. That opens the door to save chances for others, with Gregory Soto and Andrew Kittredge (knee) being named along with Dominguez by Hyde in what will be a "mix and match" situation. Dominguez served as the Orioles' primary closer down the stretch last season, going 10-for-11 in regular-season save chances after being acquired at the trade deadline.

Orioles' Seranthony Dominguez: Option for 2025 exercised
The Orioles exercised Dominguez's $8 million club option for 2025 on Monday.
Dominguez collected a 3.97 ERA and 28:9 K:BB over 22.2 innings while notching 10 saves down the stretch of the regular season for the Orioles after being acquired from the Phillies via trade. While Dominguez finished the 2024 season as Baltimore's closer, Felix Bautista (elbow) should reclaim that job in 2025.

Orioles' Seranthony Dominguez: Collects 11th save
Dominguez picked up the save in Tuesday's 5-3 victory over the Yankees, pitching a clean two-thirds of an inning with no strikeouts.
The Baltimore closer collected his first save since Sept. 10 to send the Orioles back to the postseason. After Gregory Soto faced two left-handed batters -- Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Rizzo -- to open the ninth, Dominguez relieved him to tidily retire the next two batters on just seven pitches. Since joining Baltimore on July 26, Dominguez has collected 10 saves while pitching to a 3.43 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB across 21 innings.

Orioles' Seranthony Dominguez: Stuck with blown save
Dominguez was charged with a blown save in Friday's 5-3 win over the Giants, allowing a run on one hit and two walks in one-third of an inning.
Protecting a one-run lead in the ninth, Dominguez walked the first two batters he faced before Casey Schmitt tied the game with a base hit. It's the first blown save in 10 chances for Dominguez since he joined the Orioles in July. The right-hander has allowed three runs in his last two appearances (1.1 innings) after allowing just one run in his previous 7.1 frames. Despite his recent struggles, Dominguez figures to remain in the closing role down the stretch. His ERA sits at 4.37 on the year with a 1.20 WHIP and 66:18 K:BB across 55.2 innings between Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Dominguez earned the save in Tuesday's 5-3 victory against Boston, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts while allowing one hit.
The Baltimore closer required only 14 pitches to retire the side in the ninth to collect his ninth save with the team since arriving via trade July 26. Dominguez has a been a steady source of strikeouts for a reliever, as he's now posted three consecutive multi-K appearances. The 29-year-old flamethrower has now pitched to a 2.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB across 17.1 innings with the Orioles.
