  • Rays' Yoniel Curet: Dealing with shoulder injury

Curet is dealing with a right shoulder injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.

Curet was placed on the 60-day injured list in late-March with an undisclosed injury, and there's now a bit more information available, though there isn't a timetable or a specific diagnosis. He is already on the 40-man roster and needed to prove this season that his fantastic finish to 2024 (1.10 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 106:29 K:BB in 73.2 innings over his final 15 starts) was no fluke and that he has the command to start. It's possible the Rays will fast-track him to the bullpen this year or next, but Curet has the upside to close games if he doesn't make it as a high-strikeout starter.

  • Rays' Yoniel Curet: Opens season on Double-A IL

Double-A Montgomery placed Curet on its 60-day injured list Saturday due to an unspecified injury.

Curet is heading into his second season as a member of the Rays' 40-man roster, but he's still a long way off from reaching the majors. He's made just five starts above the High-A level, and he looks to be at least a couple months away from making his 2025 debut after he apparently got injured during spring training. The 22-year-old righty found immediate success with Montgomery last season following his promotion from High-A Bowling Green, turning in a 1.75 ERA while striking out 37 batters over 25.2 innings.

  • Rays' Yoniel Curet: Optioned to minors camp

The Rays optioned Curet to minor-league camp Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The club's top pitching prospect, Curet allowing one run with a 1:1 K:BB over two innings this spring. The 22-year-old finished with a flourish late last season at Double-A Montgomery and could be headed back there to begin the 2025 season.

  • Rays' Yoniel Curet: Moves up to Double-A

The Rays promoted Curet from High-A Bowling Green to Double-A Montgomery on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old righty earned the bump up to Double-A after turning in a 3.28 ERA and 122:49 K:BB across 93.1 innings at Bowling Green. Curet already possesses a spot on the Rays' 40-man roster, though he probably won't be a realistic option for the Tampa Bay rotation until the second half of the 2025 season.

  • Rays' Yoniel Curet: Sent to minor-league camp

The Rays optioned Curet to minor-league camp Monday.

Curet caught onto the Rays' 40-man roster in November after posting a 2.94 ERA and 144:73 K:BB over 104 innings across Single-A Charleston and High-A Bowling Green. The right-hander will begin the 2024 season in the minors and could see a promotion to Double-A or Triple-A should he make strides. Curet appeared in two games in spring training and allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three over two innings.
