  • Reds' Chase Burns: Starting season at High-A level

Burns has been assigned to High-A Dayton to begin the season, MLB.com reports.

Burns did not pitch last season after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, so his first start for Dayton will be his pro debut. The hard-throwing 22-year-old could move through the Reds' system quickly.

  • Reds' Chase Burns: Makes professional debut

Burns made his professional debut Wednesday against the Rangers, striking out three and walking one in the ninth inning. Four of his pitches topped 100 mph, Pat Brennan of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

After the game, Burns was sent down to the Reds minor-league camp, where he'll continue to get more regular work. Burns didn't pitch professional last season after getting taken No. 2 overall in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft by the Reds.

  • Reds' Chase Burns: Receives spring training invite

The Reds have extended Burns an invitation to big-league camp during spring training.

Burns has yet to make his professional debut after being taken with the second pick of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, but the Reds will give the young right-hander a look-see in spring training. Cam Collier, Sal Stewart and Edwin Arroyo are among the team's other top prospects that will be in big-league camp.

  • Reds' Chase Burns: Will make full-season debut in 2025

Burns, the Reds' first-round pick in the 2025 Draft, is working out at the Reds' spring training facility in Arizona and will make his full-season debut next spring, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Burns will pitch some in the instructional league in the fall as well, following the same path as last year's first-round pick, Rhett Lowder. "Multiple factors played into the decision," Reds player development director Jeremy Farrell recently said. "But given the time off he had from the end of the Wake Forest season and wanting to set him up for 2025, the plan will be for him to pitch competitively in instructional league and then go into a normal offseason routine to prepare for next year."
