Fairbanks struck out one without allowing a baserunner across a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday against the Orioles.
Fairbanks was called upon to protect a four-run lead in a non-save situation and set down the Orioles on only 12 pitches. Wednesday's outing was Fairbanks' 30th of the season, 26 of which have been scoreless. Fairbanks allowed the possible go-ahead run to get to the plate, but he was able to settle down for his 13th save of the year. It was ultimately an encouraging bounce-back showing by the hard-throwing right-hander, who yielded two runs in a blown save in his last outing. Although Fairbanks has issued 14 walks over 28.1 innings, he boasts a 2.22 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 25 strikeouts this season as Tampa Bay's closer.

Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Can't convert save Monday
Fairbanks blew a save opportunity against the Red Sox on Monday, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one batter in 1.1 innings.
Rays manager Kevin Cash turned to Fairbanks in a key spot with two outs and a runner on base in the bottom of the eighth frame. The right-hander got Jarren Duran to strike out to preserve a one-run lead, and he looked to be in a great position to close things out after Tampa Bay added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. However, Fairbanks couldn't get the job done -- he allowed two runs in the bottom of the inning to allow the game to go into extra frames. The blown save was just the second in 14 attempts for Fairbanks this season, and it was his first since May 8. Prior to Monday, the veteran closer hadn't allowed an earned run in any of his previous nine appearances.

Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Notches ninth save
Fairbanks walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his ninth save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays.
The right-hander picked up his first save since May 4, but the drought was due to a lack of opportunities rather than effectiveness -- Fairbanks has blown only one save chance all season, and that came on an unearned run. Through 9.2 innings in May, Fairbanks has produced a 1.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB.

On the season, he owns a 1.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB across 16.1 innings while converting eight of nine save chances.

Rays' Pete Fairbanks: First blown save Thursday
Fairbanks blew the save Thursday against the Phillies after allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk in the ninth inning. He struck out one.
Although Fairbanks avoided taking an earned run due to a throwing error on a pickoff attempt earlier in the frame, it was still his first run allowed in his last eight appearances. The right-hander also fell one pitch short of his season high of 29, which could affect his availability for Friday's series opener against the Brewers. Fairbanks is still very much first in line for future save opportunities in the Rays' bullpen, as he sports a strong 1.76 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB while converting eight of his nine save chances across 15.1 innings in 2025.

Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Collects fourth save Thursday
Fairbanks earned the save in Thursday's 7-4 extra-inning win over the Diamondbacks after allowing one walk in a scoreless 10th inning. He struck out one.
It didn't appear initially that Fairbanks would be in action Thursday, but the Rays scored a run in the ninth inning to force extras and plated three more in the 10th to create a save opportunity for the closer. Even though the hard-throwing right-hander has a concerning 1.50 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB over 9.1 innings, he's converted each of his first four save chances and has a 2.89 ERA. Fairbanks' control issues could eventually come back to haunt him, but he has some decent stability as Tampa Bay's No. 1 option for saves coming off back-to-back 20-save campaigns.
