Red Sox's David Hamilton: Steals two bags in loss
Hamilton entered as a pinch runner and stole two bases in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Angels.
Hamilton ran for Kristian Campbell and stole his 11th and 12th bases of the season. Five of those 12 thefts have come as a pinch runner, as Hamilton makes the most of a limited role. He's unlikely to gain a greater role going forward even with Campbell struggling at the plate. The Red Sox are dangerously close to falling out of relevancy in 2025, and if that were to happen, Hamilton would remain on the bench watching Campbell and Marcelo Mayer.

Hamilton stole his ninth bag of the season and was in scoring position during an eighth-inning rally but was stranded there. He's tied for second on the team in steals, with three of his nine thefts coming as a pinch runner. Hamilton may provide hidden value even in a part-time role, but he's in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest, getting the call at shortstop for a resting Trevor Story.

Red Sox bench coach Ramon Vazquez indicated the break for Campbell was a reset, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com, and that he would rejoin the starting nine Tuesday. During his two-start run, Hamilton went 3-for-8 with a double, a run scored and 1-for-2 in steal attempts.

Hamilton started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Sunday's 10-4 loss to Atlanta.
Hamilton got the start at second base with a slumping Kristian Campbell (.078 in last 13 games) getting a breather. Hamilton doesn't start often but has made an impact with eight steals in a limited role (58 at-bats). With news that Campbell has begun taking reps at first base, an opening could eventually emerge for Hamilton, who has shaken off an early season slump. He's batting .393 (11-for-28) with six steals in 12 games during the month of May.

Hamilton started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Blue Jays.
Hamilton filled in for Kristian Campbell, who was scratched from the lineup after feeling rib soreness while stretching prior to the game. Hamilton's potential value has been limited due to lack of playing time behind Campbell. Thursday's steal was his third in 14 games, and the activity was his first appearance in a week. Red Sox's David Hamilton: Smacks first homer in win
Hamilton went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Rays.
Although Hamilton got a hold of a Zack Littell fastball for a long ball in the third inning, the 335-foot solo shot wouldn't have left the yard in any other MLB ballpark, per Statcast. Wednesday still marked the first homer of the year for Hamilton, who's off to a miserable start at the plate while slashing .083/.120/.208 with two RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases over 24 at-bats (10 games).

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Enters late, scores run
Hamilton entered Thursday's game as a pinch runner and scored a run in a 5-2 win over the Rangers. He finished the game at second base.
Hamilton lost out on the starting second base job to prospect Kristian Campbell, but it appears manager Alex Cora sees Hamilton's baserunning skills as an asset. He pinch ran for Campbell, who notched his first hit as a major leaguer in the top of the ninth inning. Hamilton could be of value as a pinch runner, a role that could easily lead to double-digit stolen bases.

Red Sox's David Hamilton: May lose out on starting job
Hamilton is expected to claim a roster spot as a utility fielder if he does not win the starting second base job, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Hamilton and Kristian Campbell are the primary candidates to start at second base, and it's a hopeful sign for Campbell that he started Friday and will do so again Saturday. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he has a good idea of what they plan to do at the keystone but has not made it official. At one point during spring training it appeared that Hamilton was the frontrunner, but Campbell emerged as the leader over the final week of the Grapefruit League season.

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Steals three bases Thursday
Hamilton started at second base and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run scored in Thursday's spring game against Minnesota.
Hamilton now has eight stolen bases in 19 Grapefruit League games. Boston's decision to assign Vaughn Grissom to minor-league camp Wednesday leaves Hamilton and Kristian Campbell as the last two candidates standing for the starting gig at the keystone, and Red Sox manager Alex Cora told Chad Jennings of The Athletic that final roster decisions may not be made until 48 hours before Opening Day. "Maybe Monterrey," he said, referencing next week's pair of exhibition games in Mexico. "We're getting close, but we're not in a rush." Jennings' report also includes a roster projection that has Hamilton making the roster, either in a platoon at second base or as a utility player that gets a lot of playing time off the bench. Jennings also indicates that both the industry and the Red Sox seem to value Hamilton more than his fantasy profile suggests.
