Ryan Zimmerman: Announces retirement
Zimmerman announced his retirement from baseball Tuesday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Zimmerman was the Nationals' first draft pick after the team moved to Washington in 2005. He made his big-league debut that same year and went on to spend the entirety of his 16-year professional career with the organization. The 37-year-old will finish with 1,846 hits, 284 homers and a .277/.341/.475 slash line. He went to a pair of All-Star Games and won a World Series in 2019.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Slugs 14th homer
Zimmerman went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Marlins.
It was a rare start at first base for Zimmerman, who took advantage by going yard against Jesus Luzardo in the second inning to record his 14th homer of the season. Though Zimmerman has now homered in two of his last three appearances, he has only two starts in September. Zimmerman remains a near league-average hitter, though his lack of playing time hinders his ability to produce consistently.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Continues dominance over Marlins
Zimmerman went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Marlins.
If there's one team that's going to be happy when the 36-year-old Zimmerman decides to hang them up, it's the Marlins. Tuesday's two-run blast off Jesus Luzardo in the fourth inning was Zimmerman's 40th career homer against Miami. The next highest number of home runs that the first baseman has hit off of one team is 31 against Atlanta.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Three hits, two RBI in loss
Zimmerman went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in Sunday's 5-4 loss to Atlanta.
The 36-year-old played a key role in Washington's comeback effort, knocking an RBI single in the seventh inning and an RBI double in the ninth. Zimmerman was left aboard after the latter when Josh Bell grounded out to end the game. Sunday was Zimmerman's first three-hit game since May 22. He's seen less than a platoon role, essentially serving as Bell's backup most of the time lately. Zimmerman has a mediocre .245 batting average with a .760 OPS, 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 21 runs scored and 11 doubles through 203 plate appearances.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Blasts home run in loss
Zimmerman went 1-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and a strikeout in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Orioles.
Zimmerman put the Nationals on the board in the first inning, and he he blasted a three-run homer in the top of the sixth to give the team the lead. The 36-year-old's performance helped snap a recent slump in which he went 0-for-8 with a walk and five strikeouts across his last three games.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Gets another turn as DH
Zimmerman will serve as Washington's designated hitter and bat fifth Sunday against the Orioles, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
Thanks to the DH being available in Baltimore, Zimmerman will pick up his third consecutive start. He's failed to take advantage of being included in the lineup the past two days, going 0-for-7 to drop his season average to. 229.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Hitless in July
Zimmerman has not collected a hit since June 29, going 0-for-14 over his last eight appearances to drop his slash line on the year to .242/.270/.464.
He's only started two games during that stretch as Josh Bell has slashed .341/.413/.488 over the same period, but Zimmerman isn't doing much right now to force his way into additional playing time. The veteran first baseman still offers a power threat off the bench with nine homers and 24 RBI, but aside from occasional starts against left-handed pitching and in American League parks when the DH is available, Zimmerman isn't likely to see a lot of work in the second half.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Goes deep twice Wednesday
Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers, one walk and three RBI in a 9-7 win over Tampa Bay on Wednesday.
Zimmerman started at first base and slotted into the cleanup spot for Washington in the contest. He belted a solo homer in the third inning and followed with a two-run shot in the fifth. It was the first two-homer game for Zimmerman this season and pushed his season long-ball total to eight. The veteran is enjoying a resurgent campaign, slashing .295/.327/.590 with 20 RBI after opting out of the 2020 season.

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Slugs sixth homer
Zimmerman went 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run home run in Tuesday's 11-6 win over Atlanta.
The veteran slugger got the start at first base with southpaw Max Fried on the hill for the opposition, but Zimmerman's homer came against righty reliever Edgar Santana in the fourth inning. Zimmerman has been taking full advantage of his rare opportunities, going 9-for-18 over his last four starts dating back to May 18 with three doubles, two round trippers and seven RBI. On the season, he's slashing .319/.347/.593 with six home runs and 17 RBI in only 95 plate appearances.
