  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Starts second half with three hits

Langeliers went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two RBI during Friday's 8-6 loss to the Guardians.

Langeliers entered the All-Star break with just one hit over his last six games, and the time off seemed to do wonders for him. The 27-year-old exploded out of the second-half gate with three hits, including his 13th home run, to help key an Athletics comeback that came up just short in the ninth inning. The catcher is now slashing .235/.292/.445 with 13 doubles, 13 home runs and 33 RBI on the season.

  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Smokes another homer

Rooker went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a triple and two RBI during Friday's 8-6 loss to the Guardians.

Rooker looked like he was still in Home Run Derby mode Friday, knocking out his 21st home run of the season as part of a two-hit, two-RBI day. In doing so, the 30-year-old extended his hit streak -- which he started before the break -- to seven games. Over that time, he is 11-for-26 (.423 batting average) with three homers, a triple, three doubles and eight RBI.

  • Athletics' JP Sears: Roughed up in second-half debut

Sears (7-8) took the loss after throwing four innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out five, during Friday's 8-6 loss to the Guardians.

A four-start streak of going at least five innings concluded Friday for Sears. He allowed just six runs over that stretch, so the seven runs he allowed accounted for more than he gave up over his last four starts combined. It also was the second-most runs he's allowed in one start this season behind the nine he gave up to the Astros on May 27. The 29-year-old will look to prove this was just a one-off and not the start of a pattern during his next start, scheduled to be on the road at the Rangers.

  • Athletics' Jack Perkins: Option to join rotation

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said recently that Perkins is an option to join the team's rotation out of the All-Star break, Jason Burke of Athletics on SI reports.

The Athletics closed out the first half with four starters in their rotation after optioning Mitch Spence to Triple-A Las Vegas. All four of Perkins' appearances in the majors have come in relief, but he went at least three innings in three of them and is also one of the club's better starting pitching prospects. Perkins has struck out 11 over 9.2 innings with the A's and has totaled 68 punchouts in 44 frames this season at Las Vegas. Kotsay also mentioned J.T. Ginn and Osvaldo Bido as potential options for the rotation.

  • Athletics' Carlos Cortes: Added to 40-man roster

The Athletics selected Cortes' contract and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Though Cortes will stick around at Las Vegas to begin the second half, the Athletics' decision to move him to the 40-man roster could clear the way for him to make his MLB debut later this season. The 28-year-old outfielder has enjoyed a big season in the Pacific Coast League thus far, slashing .321/.418/.603 with 16 home runs and as many walks (41) as strikeouts (41) over 299 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Grant Holman: Shifted to 60-day injured list

The Athletics transferred Holman (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.

The transaction frees up a spot on the Athletics' 40-man roster for outfielder Carlos Cortes, who had his contract selected before he was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Holman has already missed nearly a month of action with right rotator cuff tendinitis and won't be eligible for activation until mid-August.

  • Athletics' Zane Taylor: Taken by Athletics

The Athletics have selected Taylor with the 141st overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Taylor posted a 1.98 ERA and 105:11 K:BB over 95.2 innings as a senior at UNC Wilmington, with his three percent walk rate representing the eight-best mark among D-I pitchers that threw at least 50 frames. The 23-year-old is more floor than ceiling but did show more velocity in his final college season. Between his age and elite control, Taylor is likely to be a quick-mover.

  • Athletics' Gavin Turley: Drafted by Athletics

The Athletics have selected Turley with the 110th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Turley followed up a stellar showing with a wood bat in the Cape Cod League last summer by slashing .351/.472/.649 with 20 home runs in 65 games this spring for Oregon State. He has trimmed the Ks throughout his college career, culminating in a 23.3 percent strikeout rate on the Cape and a 22.1 percent strikeout rate as a junior. Even so, his hit tool projects to be fringe average at best in pro ball, and he'll need to maintain high walk rates to make up for it. He didn't run much in college but has above-average speed and can hold his own in all three outfield spots, although right field is his likely long-term home.

  • Athletics' Mason Miller: Secures save Sunday

Miller tossed a scoreless inning to earn a save against Toronto on Sunday. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.

Miller tossed 13 of 18 pitches for strikes and forced Vladimir Guerrero to ground into a double play to close out the 6-3 win. Miller has converted five straight saves while delivering eight consecutive scoreless frames since his last blown chance June 19. His season ERA fell to 4.04 with a 57:17 K:BB over 35.2 innings. Miller has converted 19 of his 22 save opportunities, including eight of his last nine.

  • Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Goes deep in win

Kurtz went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's win against Toronto.

Kurtz doubled and scored a run in the third inning before ripping a two-run shot in the fifth. After hitting one home run in his first 23 MLB contests, the rookie slugger has gone deep 16 times over his last 35 games. Kurtz hit five homers during the Athletics' nine-game homestand to close out the first half. He owns a .257/.333/.558 through 234 plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Fans five in win

Springs (8-6) yielded three runs on three hits over 6.2 innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over Toronto.

Springs retired the first 14 batters he faced before Davis Schneider belted a solo shot in the fifth inning. Addison Barger later knocked Springs out of the contest with a two-run homer in the seventh. Springs has given up at least one home run in 16 of his 20 outings this season and has allowed 19 total. He's produced a 2.94 ERA across 49 frames since the start of June, lowering his season ERA to 3.93. Springs has tossed 110 innings this year and should soon surpass his career high of 135.1 innings set in 2022.

  • Athletics' Devin Taylor: Taken by A's

The Athletics have selected Taylor with the 48th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Taylor hasn't faced the greatest competition in the Big Ten, but he's had an OPS over 1.080 all three years at Indiana and slashed .296/.397/.510 in 29 Cape Cod League games in 2024. His command of the zone predictably improved each year, culminating in an 11.2 percent strikeout rate and 19.3 percent walk rate as a junior. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound lefty hitter has fringe-average or worse tools, save for his hit and power tools, which could both be above average or better. This is important, as he'll be limited to left field, so he needs to provide offensive impact. His showing on the Cape should help alleviate concerns over the mediocre pitching he faced at Indiana.

  • Athletics' Jamie Arnold: Slides to No. 11

The Athletics have selected Arnold with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Arnold may have the best combination of track record and recent performance among this draft's crop of pitching prospects. A 6-foot-1, 188-pound southpaw who spent his entire college career at Florida State with a strong 2023 Cape Cod League showing mixed in, Arnold has been a top two ACC pitcher in back-to-back seasons. His stuff keeps getting better, with his fastball now sitting in the mid-90s (touches 97 mph). Arnold's slider is one of the best pitches in the land, working as a finishing pitch to both righties and lefties. The biggest knock when comparing Arnold to fellow southpaw Kade Anderson is that Arnold's arsenal isn't as deep, with his third-pitch changeup lagging behind as an average offering. His low three-quarters arm slot elicits comparisons to Chris Sale. He threw 190.1 innings and logged a 6.6 percent walk rate over the last two seasons, so the quality of his changeup is the only question mark as he enters pro ball.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Resting Sunday

Andujar is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

After being activated from the injured list Wednesday, Andujar has proceeded to start at third base in three of the Athletics' ensuing five games, going 2-for-12 with a walk. Though Gio Urshela will fill in for him at the hot corner Sunday, Andujar should serve as the Athletics' primary option at the position heading into the second half.
