Top Amari Bailey News

  • Amari Bailey: Cut by Brooklyn

The Nets waived Bailey on Saturday, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports.

A second-round draft pick in 2023, Bailey signed a two-way deal with the Hornets last summer but appeared in just 10 games at the NBA level as a rookie. The Hornets opted to decline Bailey's qualifying offer in July, making him a free agent until he inked an Exhibit 10 deal with Brooklyn shortly before training camp. Though Bailey wasn't able to secure a two-way spot or 15-man roster, he could remain with the Nets organization as part of the G League roster.

Bailey was the 41st pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and played for the Hornets last season. He's unlikely to make the roster for the start of the regular season, but he'll add depth in training camp and should contend for a G League role in a worst-case scenario.

  • Hornets' Amari Bailey: Plays entire fourth quarter

Bailey (illness) logged five points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and two rebounds across 12 minutes Friday in the Hornets' 131-98 loss to the Celtics.

Bailey had missed four straight games with an illness before being cleared to return to action for Wednesday's game against the Hawks, but he didn't enter the rotation while the Hornets eked out a 115-114 win. With Friday's contest proving to be much less competitive, Bailey got the chance to make his return to action, as he played the entire fourth quarter of the blowout. The rookie could stick in the rotation again in Sunday's game in Cleveland if the Hornets opt to rest or limit Vasilije Micic and Tre Mann.
