Lakers' Jalen Hood-Schifino: Cleared for training camp
General manager Rob Pelinka said Wednesday that Hood-Schifino (back) is medically cleared for training camp, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
Hood-Schifino had an injury-riddled rookie campaign and underwent lumbar microdiscectomy surgery in March to repair a bulging disc in his back. He missed the 2024 Las Vegas Summer League but is back to full strength ahead of the regular season. Hood-Schifino will compete with Gabe Vincent, Bronny James and Max Christie for backup backcourt minutes behind D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves this season.

Lakers' Jalen Hood-Schifino: Won't play in Summer League
The Lakers announced Tuesday that Hood-Schifino (back) isn't on the team's Summer League roster, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Hood-Schifino underwent a lumbar microdiscectomy surgery in March to repair a bulging disc in his back and appears to still be recovering. While the second-year guard isn't expected to play in Summer League, it is unclear if he will be healthy to begin the 2024-25 regular season.

Lakers' Jalen Hood-Schifino: Undergoes back procedure
Hood-Schifino underwent a successful lumbar microdiscectomy procedure Thursday and is without a timetable to return, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
A lumbar microdiscectomy is a procedure done to address a bulging disk in the lower back. While the Lakers haven't provided a timeline for Hood-Schifino's return, it's a virtual certainty that he's done for the regular season, and quite likely, the entirety of Los Angeles' potential playoff run. The rookie first-round pick largely didn't factor into the rotation this season, appearing in 21 games while averaging 1.6 points in 5.2 minutes per game and shooting 22.2 percent from the field.

The Lakers recalled Hood-Schifino from the G League's South Bay Lakers on Sunday.
Hood-Schifino joins the Lakers in advance of Sunday's game against Minnesota. He's averaging 1.6 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists across 5.2 minutes per game while shooting just 22.2 percent from the field over 21 appearances at the NBA level this season.
