  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Won't play Monday

Wembanyama (rest) has been ruled out for Monday's preseason opener against the Thunder, Paul Garcia of ProjectSpurs.com reports. Wembanyama will sit out Monday along with Zach Collins (rest) and Charles Bassey (knee), allowing the Spurs to take an extended look at Sandro Mamukelashvili, Jeremy Sochan and Nathan Mensah at center. Wembanyama's next opportunity to suit up will come Wednesday versus the Magic.

  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Scores game-high 26 points

Wembanyama scored 26 points (11-19 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT) while adding seven rebounds, two assists and a steal across 30 minutes in France's 98-87 loss to USA in the gold medal game Saturday. Wembanyama had tough matchups throughout the game, and while the French team couldn't win the gold medal, the 20-year-old had a strong showing in the final game of the tournament. Wembanyama will rest for a few weeks before preparing for the start of the 2024-25 NBA season with the Spurs.

  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Overcomes poor shooting in victory

Wembanyama posted 11 points (4-17 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 2-3 FT), seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks across 32 minutes during Thursday's 73-69 semifinal victory over Germany. Wembanyama unsurprisingly made several highlight plays, but he struggled from beyond the arc despite many of his looks being wide open. However, he was able to contribute as a passer, rebounder and defensive presence. It was enough, and France now goes to the gold medal game.

  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Double-doubles in Olympic loss

Wembanyama delivered 14 points (5-11 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 12 rebounds, an assist, two steals and a block in Friday's 85-71 loss to Germany. This was Wembanyama's second consecutive double-double in the Olympics, and he continues to be an absolute threat on both ends of the court for Les Bleus. This was also his third straight game with multiple steals. While the 14-point output was his lowest of the competition, Wembanyama does enough in other categories to remain an excellent fantasy option in all formats.

  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Leads France to Olympic win

Wembanyama posted 18 points (6-13 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 11 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals across 31 minutes in France's 94-90 overtime win over Japan in the Paris Olympics on Tuesday. The 20-year-old continued his elite two-way play Tuesday, and through two group-phase games, he has already racked up six steals and five blocks. Wembanyama has also accumulated 37 points and 20 rebounds across that two-game span, and his efficiency from deep against Japan was a welcome sight after he went 1-for-4 against Brazil on Saturday. The young star will hope to bring France to the podium, and the squad has the talent to do so with Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum and Evan Fournier alongside Wembanyama.

  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Out for regular-season finale

Wembanyama won't play in Sunday's game versus the Pistons due to right ankle injury management. Wembanyama (ankle) isn't on the injury report for Friday's game against the Nuggets, Paul Garcia of ProjectSpurs.com reports. Wembanyama sat out Wednesday against the Thunder due to right ankle injury management, and coach Gregg Popovich was non-committal regarding the rookie's status after the game. However, Wembanyama should be back in action following a one-game absence. Over his last seven appearances, he's averaged 26.0 points, 12.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 34.4 minutes per game.

Wembanyama was able to post a high scoring total despite being smothered by Draymond Green for most of the contest. Green did manage to curb the rookie's usual voluminous rebound numbers, but the generational talent is still one of the best producers in the league and the heavy favorite for Rookie of the Year.

  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Sitting out Monday

Wembanyama (ankle) won't play Monday against the Suns. Wembanyama participated in portions of Monday's shootaround, which suggests that his left ankle sprain is minor, but it's not a surprise to see the Spurs err on the side of caution and hold the prized rookie out while he's less than 100 percent. In Wembanyama's absence, the Spurs will likely move Zach Collins into the starting five and insert Dominick Barlow into the rotation as their backup center.

The French rookie became the first player in NBA history to record at least 30 points, at least 15 rebounds, at least five assists and five or more blocks while shooting 50 percent from the field in a single game while leading the Spurs to victory Sunday. There are no more adjectives left to describe what Wembanyama has done during his first year in The Association, and he's going to be a fantasy stud for years to come -- and even earlier than expected.
