Browns' Malcolm Smith: Back from COVID list
Smith was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Smith returned to the team Thursday after missing the Browns' Week 18 win over the Bengals while on the COVID list. The linebacker appeared in 15 games in 2021, making 51 tackles and deflecting five passes while recording two interceptions.

Browns' Malcolm Smith: Placed on COVID list
The Browns have placed Smith on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
With the Browns out of the playoff picture, it would appear unlikely he'll clear the league's health and safety protocols in order to suit up again this season. If he is unable to, Jacob Phillips would be next in line to back up Anthony Walker at middle linebacker for Sunday's season finale.

Browns' Malcolm Smith: Starting Sunday
Smith will start Sunday's contest against the Ravens, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
With Anthony Walker (COVID-19) inactive for Week 14, Smith will draw the start in his place. The last time Smith played more than 90 percent of the Browns' defensive snaps, he recorded eight tackles and one interception during a 31-21 win over the Texans in Week 2.

Smith recorded 10 tackles (nine solo) with a pass defensed in a 15-10 loss to the Steelers on Sunday.
Smith had his highest tackle total of the season on just 37 snaps. Despite the solid performance Smith's rotational role in the Browns defense doesn't provide a lot of fantasy value. Smith and the Browns defense will travel to Cincinnati in Week 9 for a divisional showdown.
