Burgess suffered a hamstring injury at practice Aug. 22 and was placed on injured reserve Aug. 25. He will now have the chance to pass a physical and sign with another team in 2024.

Last season, Burgess appeared in 12 games and recorded 25 total tackles while playing just 120 defensive snaps. A 2020 third-round pick, Burgess made just three starts in three seasons with the Rams and mostly continued in backup role for the Commanders this past year. He did record 10 tackles in his lone start, Week 18, albeit as part of a Washington secondary that allowed the Cowboys to throw for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Burgess is scheduled for unrestricted free agency in the offseason.

Burgess recorded eight tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Cowboys.
Burgess started Sunday's contest at safety in place of Taylor Rapp, who had been ruled out with a rib injury.
