Colts' Khalil Herbert: Joining Indy
Herbert agreed to a one-year contract with the Colts on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Indianapolis is a favorable landing spot for Herbert, who fell out of favor in Chicago last season and then barely received playing time in Cincinnati until Chase Brown missed Week 18 with an ankle injury. Herbert started in 12 of his 48 appearances in three-plus seasons with the Bears, averaging 4.8 yards on 372 carries and 6.5 yards on 45 receptions. He'll turn 27 years old in April and has a nice opportunity ahead, joining an Indianapolis offense that relied on Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson for depth behind Jonathan Taylor in 2024. The downside for Herbert is that he has zero opportunity to become the starter outside of an injury to Taylor.

Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Solid in spot start Saturday
Herbert rushed 20 times for 69 yards and brought in seven of eight targets for 14 yards in the Bengals' 19-17 win over the Steelers on Saturday night.
Herbert got the spot start due to Chase Brown (ankle) being sidelined and shouldered quite the heavy workload after having previously combined for just eight carries since arriving in Cincinnati via trade with the Bears. The veteran running back unsurprisingly found tough sledding on the ground against the Steelers, but he was a steady presence in the passing game and finished third on the team in receptions and targets. If the Bengals are able to make their way into the postseason with help Sunday, Herbert would be in line to draw another start in the wild-card round if Brown remains sidelined.

Bengals' Khalil Herbert: In line for leading role Saturday
Herbert is in line to be the Bengals' primary running back Saturday in Pittsburgh due to Chase Brown (ankle) being inactive for the contest, Geoff Hobson of the team's official site reports.
Brown won't suit up one week removed from spraining his right ankle during last Saturday's overtime win against the Broncos. Since joining the Bengals at the trade deadline, Herbert has received spot duty in seven consecutive games prior to this Week 18 matchup, turning eight carries into 45 yards (5.6 YPC) and gathering in his only target for seven yards. Considering Cincinnati's other available RBs on Saturday are Trayveon Williams (no touches in 16 games) and undrafted rookie Kendall Milton (one appearance this season), Herbert appears poised to operate as a workhorse for a high-powered offense.
