The Steelers waived Mims on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Mims spent his first three seasons with the Jets before being traded to Detroit in July of 2023. The 2020 second-round pick was eventually waived with a calf injury by the Lions ahead of last season. He then went unsigned before linking up with Pittsburgh's practice squad in October, though he never appeared in a game for the Steelers during the 2023 campaign and signed a future/reserves contract in January. Mims recorded 11 catches for 186 yards over 10 games during the 2022 season.

Steelers' Denzel Mims: Sticking around Pittsburgh
Mims signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers on Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official website reports.
Mims joined Pittsburgh's practice unit in October, failing to appear in a game during the 2023 campaign. The wide receiver will now stick around for the offseason and attempt to crack the team's initial 53-man roster ahead of the 2024 season.

The Lions waived Mims (calf) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Detroit traded for Mims just ahead of training camp, but he couldn't stay on the field due to an ankle issue and then sustained a calf injury while rehabbing. The 2020 second-round pick will now have a chance to choose his next destination should he clear waivers.

Mims dealt with an ankle injury prior to hurting his calf, a combination that has sent him to IR. He'll thus have to miss the entire 2023 season unless he and the Lions agree to terms of an injury settlement. Mims is reportedly now dealing with a calf injury, and by waiving him prior to the start of the regular season Detroit can avoid dealing a conditional late-round pick to the Jets. Lions' Denzel Mims: Sent to Detroit in pick swap
The Lions acquired Mims from the Jets on Wednesday, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. New York will receive a 2025 conditional sixth-round draft pick while sending back a 2025 seventh-round pick to Detroit, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
In an effort to drum up last-minute trade interest, the Jets made it public earlier Wednesday that they would cut Mims if a trade didn't materialize. The Cowboys were one of the teams linked to a Mims trade, but Detroit closed the deal, giving the 2020 second-round receiver a needed change of scenery. Buried on the depth chart in New York, the 6-foot-3, 207-pound Mims caught just 42 passes for 676 scoreless yards in 30 games over his first three seasons. With the Lions, Mims will try to carve out a role on the perimeter, where he'll compete with the likes of Marvin Jones, Josh Reynolds, and Kalif Raymond while Jameson Williams is suspended for the first six weeks of the season.

Jets' Denzel Mims: Likely done in New York
The Jets are expected to waive Mims prior to the start of the season unless the team can find a trade partner for him, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Mims, a 2020 second-round pick, hasn't yet scored an NFL touchdown and is evidently on the outside looking in of a crowded receiver room featuring Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman (groin) and Randall Cobb (ankle) ahead of him on the depth chart. Barring the possibility of the Jets negotiating something along the lines of a late-round pick exchange, Mims will likely find himself a free agent in the near future. In 10 appearances last season, Mims secured just 11 of 25 targets for 186 yards. He hasn't helped his case for sticking around in New York by offering limited contributions on special teams.
