  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: Staying in San Francisco

The 49ers re-signed Taylor to a one-year deal Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The 26-year-old running back will remain with the 49ers after spending most of last season on the team's active roster. He saw increased offensive action in 2024 due to injuries to Christian McCaffrey (knee), Jordan Mason (ankle) and Isaac Guerendo (knee), appearing in 13 games and taking 39 carries for 183 yards and one touchdown. Additionally, Taylor hauled in three of his 11 targets for 25 yards and accumulated 104 kick-return yards. Expect Taylor to serve as one of San Francisco's top reserve backs again in 2025.

  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: Cracks century mark Sunday

Taylor rushed 17 times for 109 yards while catching one of four targets for 12 receiving yards in Sunday's 47-24 loss to Arizona.

Rookie starter Isaac Guerendo (knee) went down on his second carry Sunday, opening the door for Taylor to post the first 100-plus yard game of his career. The 26-year-old finished the regular season with a 39-183-1 rushing line, with most of that production coming in the blowout loss to the Cardinals. The veteran backup will now become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason after playing out his one-year deal with San Francisco.

  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: Logs 13 snaps on offense

Taylor did not record a carry or a target while playing 13 offensive snaps (20 percent) in Monday's 40-34 loss to the Lions.

Taylor reverted to the backup role in San Francisco after rookie Isaac Guerendo returned from a one-game layoff. The 26-year-old Taylor logged 13 snaps on offense in addition to his usual eight on special teams, but it resulted in no offensive stats. With Guerendo no worse for wear after Monday's loss, Taylor figures to serve a similar reserve role in Sunday's season finale against the Cardinals.

  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: Struggles in first start with SF

Taylor ran the ball eight times for 24 yards while catching just one of five targets for one yard in Sunday's 29-17 loss to Miami.

Taylor was unable to replicate the "next man up" trend of success from being the 49ers' starting running back. The 26-year-old struggled to get much going on the ground, leading to quarterback Brock Purdy (26 rushing yards) finishing as the team's leading rusher. Taylor was filling in for rookie Isaac Guerendo (hamstring), whose status for Week 17 is still uncertain. The latter would be the preferred fantasy option against the Lions on Monday if healthy, but Taylor would retain deep-league value if asked to start again for San Francisco.

  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: Favorite to replace Guerendo

Taylor is preparing for a larger role with fellow running back Isaac Guerendo (hamstring/foot) ruled out for Sunday's game at Miami, 95.7 The Game reports.

Taylor briefly handled the lead role when Guerendo suffered a foot injury in the second half of a 38-13 win over Chicago in Week 14. Taylor played 10 consecutive snaps right after Guerendo's early exit, taking six carries for 18 yards and a TD in that span, before the 49ers pulled a bunch of starters in garbage time and let Ke'Shawn Vaughn take the final two carries. Guerendo made it back for Week 15 to take 75 percent of snaps and all 20 RB touches, but he injured his hamstring along the way and now will miss at least one week, leaving Taylor, Vaughn (practice squad) and Israel Abanikanda as the healthy RBs for an offense that's typically been extremely friendly to the position. Of course, this year's version of the San Francisco offense hasn't been nearly as powerful as the pre-2024 version, and star left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) will join Guerendo on the inactive list ahead of Sunday's road matchup with a solid Miami defense.

  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: No touches Thursday

Taylor was on the field for three offensive snaps (six percent) and did not record a touch in Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams.

Taylor had an outside chance of starting Thursday's contest after fill-in starter Issac Guerendo missed multiple practices with a foot injury. The latter got a limited session in Wednesday before ultimately starting and logging 16 carries for 57 yards in the loss. Taylor did not record a touch while spending most of his night on special teams (17 snaps). With a few extra days of rest between Thursday's loss and next Sunday's tilt against Miami, Guerendo figures to start again for the 6-8 49ers in Week 16.

  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: Week 15 role TBD

Taylor may not start Thursday versus the Rams with Isaac Guerendo (foot) active for the contest.

If Guerendo wasn't able to play Week 15, Taylor was lined up to be the 49ers' primary runner for at least one game. Having said that, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Guerendo felt good following Wednesday's limited practice, which was enough for the team to clear him. Taylor likely will cede a majority share of touches if Guerendo indeed is able to start, but the former still will be in the mix for snaps along with practice-squad call-up Ke'Shawn Vaughn. In nine appearances this season, Taylor has tallied 14 carries for 50 yards and one TD and gathered in one of two targets for 12 yards.
