Elijah Dotson: Doesn't make Bolts' 53-man roster
Dotson was waived by the Chargers on Tuesday.
Dotson managed to catch on with the Chargers' 53-man roster in 2023 after a productive preseason, but he wasn't able to replicate that success this time around. He finished the season with 38 rushing yards on 11 carries and ultimately wasn't able to stick around in a depth backfield role. Should he clear waivers, Dotson could sign to the Chargers' practice squad or search for opportunities elsewhere.

Chargers' Elijah Dotson: Stays in Los Angeles
The Chargers signed Dotson to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Undrafted out of North Colorado in 2023, Dotson landed with the Chargers and had a productive preseason, rushing for 18-146-2 to earn a spot on the active roster. Dotson played 16 offensive snaps in the regular season, rushing four times for six yards and catching two passes for 13 yards. He later was cut and joined the Chargers' practice squad.

Elijah Dotson: Staying in Los Angeles
The Chargers signed Dotson to their practice squad Tuesday.

Elijah Dotson: Let go by Bolts
The Chargers waived Dotson on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Dotson has not seen seen the field since the Week 4 win over Las Vegas. His playing time early in the year correlated with the absence of RB1 Austin Ekeler, but he's been a nonfactor with Ekeler available over the past seven games. With Joshua Kelley and Isaiah Spiller both ahead of him on the depth chart, it's not surprising to see the Chargers cut Dotson loose ahead of Sunday's game versus New England. The undrafted free agent will now be subject to waivers, and he will become an unrestricted free agent if he goes unclaimed.

Chargers' Elijah Dotson: Inactive Monday
Dotson is inactive for Monday's game against the Cowboys.
With top back Austin Ekeler back in action Monday, Dotson is the odd man out in the Chargers' Week 6 backfield. As a result, Joshua Kelley and Isaiah Spiller are on hand to work behind Ekeler. In that context, Dotson is off the fantasy radar until injuries hit the team's RB corps.

Chargers' Elijah Dotson: Plays single snap
Dotson played a single snap in Sunday's 28-24 win over the Vikings.
It appeared as if Dotson had a lock on the backup job behind Joshua Kelley after playing nine snaps in the Week 2 loss to the Titans, but at least for Sunday, it was Isaiah Spiller who saw a healthy amount of complementary snaps. The undrafted rookie free agent hasn't done much despite a solid preseason, one which ultimately helped him make the final 53-man roster.

Chargers' Elijah Dotson: Gets six touches in loss
Dotson carried the ball four times for six yards in Sunday's 27-24 overtime loss to the Titans. He also caught two passes for 13 yards.
Dotson only played nine offensive snaps total, so that he touched the ball in six of those is impressive. Perhaps more crucially for fantasy managers, the undrafted rookie does appear to be the clear backup to Joshua Kelley, who himself filled in for the injured Austin Ekeler (ankle). Expect a high-octane offensive game in an interesting Week 3 matchup against the Vikings.

Chargers' Elijah Dotson: Stays on 53-man roster
Dotson made Los Angeles' 53-man roster Tuesday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
The multi-positional athlete tallied 146 yards on 18 carries across three preseason games, but it's likely his utility as a special teams asset that ultimately helped the undrafted rookie land a spot on active roster. The Chargers opted to keep four running backs at this juncture with Austin Ekeler, Joshua Kelley and Isaiah Spiller all figuring to see more offensive snaps if the roster remains unchanged entering Week 1.

Chargers' Elijah Dotson: Makes case for roster spot
Dotson took six carries for 33 yards in Friday's 23-12 preseason win over San Francisco.
Dotson entered the game after Joshua Kelley and Isaiah Spiller but before the Chargers' other undrafted running backs. The Northern Colorado product again outplayed Spiller and finishes his first NFL preseason with 18 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Dotson may have earned a spot on the Week 1 roster and will at least get a job on the practice squad if not.
