Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Ready to return
Staal (rest) will be in the lineup against the Devils on Sunday in Game 1 of the postseason, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Staal played in four of Carolina's final 10 games down the stretch, sitting out with a lower-body injury and for additional rest. He finished the 2024-25 regular season with 13 goals, 36 points, 107 shots on net and 138 hits across 75 appearances.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Staying out of lineup Thursday
Staal (rest) is slated to skip Thursday versus Ottawa.
Staal is resting for the second consecutive game, but he should play in Game 1 of Carolina's first-round series against the Devils on Sunday. The 36-year-old is expected to finish the regular season with 13 goals and 36 points over 75 appearances. This will mark the fifth straight campaign he's finished between 30 and 39 points.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Among scratches against Habs
Staal will be rested versus Montreal on Wednesday.
Staal joins six other players who will be getting the night off Wednesday in order to get them ready ahead of the postseason. Since the Hurricanes will still be in action versus Ottawa on Thursday, the team will likely shuffle the lines up again, which means Staal could still be in action for that contest. With 36 points this year, Staal reached the 30-point threshold for the fifth straight year and eighth time in the last 10 seasons.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Two points in Saturday's win
Staal picked up a goal and an assist in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Rangers.
Both points came in the third period as the Hurricanes fended off a late, and futile, comeback attempt by the desperate visitors. It was Staal's first multi-point performance since Jan. 23, and the 36-year-old is putting the finishing touches on another solid campaign as a reliable bottom-six center. Staal has 13 goals and 36 points in 74 appearances, and he's dished 133 hits. This is his his fifth straight season with at least 30 points and 10th straight season in the triple digits for hits. His plus-16 rating is also his best mark since 2009-10.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Gets assist in second game back
Staal posted an assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Capitals.
Staal has been back for two games since he missed four contests due to a lower-body injury. He's back in his usual third-line role, so expect Staal to see heavily defensive assignments to close out the regular season unless head coach Rod Brind'Amour wants to rest him. Staal has produced 34 points, 102 shots on net, 131 hits and a plus-14 rating over 73 outings this season, right in line with his level of production over the last seven years.

Following a four-game absence, Staal will return to a middle-six spot versus Buffalo. He has supplied 12 goals, 33 points, 99 shots on net, 42 blocked shots and 127 hits in 71 appearances this season. Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Practice Monday
Staal (lower body) practiced with the Hurricanes ahead of Tuesday's matchup versus Buffalo but remains questionable, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Staal was originally ruled out for the entirety of the Hurricanes' four-game road trip, but could still be an option to suit up Tuesday in Buffalo or Thursday in Washington. Regardless of his status Tuesday, the fact that the veteran center was back on the ice would seem to be a positive step in the right direction. Prior to getting hurt, Staal was mired in a nine-game goal drought during which he generated two helpers, 10 shots and 10 hits.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Not on road trip
Staal (lower body) didn't accompany Carolina on the team's four-game road trip, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports Saturday.
Staal has already missed the last three games and would be out until at least April 12 versus the Rangers if he doesn't join the team on the road. He has collected 12 goals, 33 points, 99 shots on net, 42 blocked shots and 127 hits in 71 appearances this season. Due to Staal's absence, Tyson Jost has occupied a bottom-six spot in the lineup.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Unavailable Friday
Staal (lower body) won't play Friday versus the Red Wings, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Staal is set to miss his third straight game. There's been no specific update about his availability for Saturday's game against the Bruins -- it's possible he's sitting out Friday to avoid playing back-to-back contests immediately after the injury. Due to Andrei Svechnikov's (undisclosed) absence, Justin Robidas is holding the last spot in the Hurricanes' lineup for Friday's game.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Doubtful for Wednesday
Staal (lower body) is doubtful for Wednesday's matchup against Washington, according to Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer.
Staal will probably miss his second straight outing as a precaution but could be available for Friday's contest against Detroit or Saturday's game versus Boston. The 36-year-old forward has 12 goals, 33 points, 99 shots on net, 42 blocked shots and 127 hits in 71 appearances this season. Tyson Jost will likely continue to see time in Carolina's bottom six until Staal is ready to return.

Staal is mired in a six-game point drought and won't get a chance to snap that skid Sunday. He has 12 goals, 33 points, 99 shots on net, 42 blocked shots and 127 hits across 71 appearances this season. Tyson Jost will replace Staal in Sunday's lineup.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Not playing Saturday
Staal (lower body) won't play against the Kings on Saturday.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Scores in win Tuesday
Staal scored a goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Red Wings.
Staal has found the back of the net twice over his last four games, but the veteran hasn't been the most reliable scoring weapon for the Hurricanes. In fact, those two tallies have been his only goals since the beginning of February in what has been a cold streak for the veteran. He scored six goals over 15 games solely in the month of January, so he'll attempt to bounce back to close out the season.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Opens scoring Thursday
Staal scored a goal on two shots, added four hits, blocked two shots and went plus-2 in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Staal has a goal and two assists over his last four outings. The 36-year-old center has had some brief stretches of productivity this season, but none of his point streaks have exceeded four games. That's not unusual for Staal, who is more of a defensive center, though he manages to chip in decent offense. For the season, he's at 11 goals, 30 points, 84 shots on net, 113 hits and a plus-13 rating over 59 appearances. Staal has not reached the 40-point mark since 2017-18, but he is currently on pace to do so this year.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Set to play Saturday
Staal (illness) will play Saturday against the Kings, according to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
Staal was a game-time decision due to the illness, but he won't end up missing any ice time. He has 10 goals and 27 points in 52 appearances in 2024-25. He's projected to skate on the third line with Jordan Martinook and Seth Jarvis.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Game-time call
Staal (illness) will be a game-time decision against the Kings on Saturday, according to Peter Dewar of the Hurricanes' official site.
Staal missed the morning skate and joins Sebastian Aho (illness) and Taylor Hall (illness) as game-time calls for Saturday's matchup. The 36-year-old Staal has 10 goals, 27 points, 72 shots on net, 31 blocked shots and 96 hits across 52 appearances this season. If Aho and Hall play against the Kings, Ryan Suzuki could replace Staal in the lineup.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Dishes pair of assists in win
Staal logged two assists, three shots on goal, two hits and two PIM in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Blue Jackets.
Staal earned his first multi-point effort since Jan. 10 versus the Canucks, though he still chipped in two points over the five games in between. The 36-year-old center has had a fantastic January with 13 points over 12 outings. That level of offense won't last, but he's been a big part of the Hurricanes' success in a two-way role. He's up to 10 goals, 17 helpers, 71 shots on net, 88 hits and a plus-12 rating over 49 appearances this season, putting him three points shy of matching his 80-game total from the 2023-24 regular season.

Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Scores goal vs. Chicago
Staal recorded a goal, four shots, two hits and a blocked shot in Monday's 4-3 overtime win over the Blackhawks.
Staal might be playing in the third line and could be considered past his prime in his age-36 season, but there's no question the veteran playmaker is going through a productive stretch of late. Staal has cracked the scoresheet in six of his last eight appearances, tallying three multi-point efforts and racking up 10 points (six goals, four assists) in that span.
