Severson has scored in consecutive games and has seven points over his last eight contests. The 30-year-old put the Blue Jackets ahead 2-0 in the first period before their offense got stonewalled by Kevin Lankinen. Severson is up to six goals, nine assists, 48 shots on net, 50 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating over 26 outings, which shows improvement virtually across the board compared to 2023-24. His career highs are 11 goals and 46 points, and he has a realistic chance to challenge both of those marks in 2024-25.

Severson had an assist, one shot on net and three blocks in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to Montreal.
Severson fed Zach Werenski, whose pass to the front of the net caromed in off a Montreal skate to tie the game and set up overtime. The assist was Severson's second in the last three games and upped his season total 10 points over 21 outings.

The game was scoreless through two periods, but early in the third Severson carried the puck into the corner and tries to slip a pass to James van Riemsdyk camped in front of the New York crease. Instead, the puck deflected off Ryan Pulock's skate and got past a helpless Semyon Varlamov. Severson struggled in 2023-24 under the weight of his big free-agent contract and the coaching chaos in Columbus, but the veteran defenseman has been more relaxed and more productive to begin the current campaign, racking up two goals and five points in the Blue Jackets' first nine games with 16 shots on net, 14 blocked shots, eight hits, eight PIM and a plus-5 rating.

Severson snapped his six-game point drought when he picked off a Jacob Markstrom rim-around and flung it into the net before the Flames' goalie could get back in position. Severson notched two assists in Friday's 6-5 overtime win over the Maple Leafs.
His breakout pass to catch Toronto on a bad line change led to a Brendan Gaunce tally in the second period. Severson also set up Johnny Gaudreau's OT winner. The points were the first for Severson in three games since returning from an oblique injury. He didn't see any meaningful power-play time Friday after Zach Werenski (ankle) was placed on IR because Ivan Provorov handled duties on the first unit instead. Without ice time on the man advantage, Severson's fantasy value is limited.

Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Returns to action Saturday
Severson (oblique) will be activated from injured reserve ahead of his return to the lineup Saturday versus Toronto, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Severson missed 15 games with the injury. He will replace Jake Bean in the lineup and is expected to see second unit power-play time. Severson had two goals and three points in three games before getting hurt. He has eight points, 21 shots on goal and 35 blocked shots in 19 games this season.

Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Set to play before break
Severson (oblique) is expected to play in one of the Blue Jackets' next two matches, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports Wednesday.
Severson evidently won't have to wait until after the Christmas break, returning to action against either the Capitals or Maple Leafs on Thursday or Saturday, respectively. Through 19 games this season, the blueliner has registered three goals and five assists, including one power-play point. Despite the missed time, Severson should still be capable of reaching the 30-point threshold for the third straight season.
