Top Flames News

  • Flames' Hunter Brzustewicz: Solid in first pro season

Brzustewicz has generated three goals and 15 assists in 46 games for AHL Calgary this season.

Brzustewicz's numbers may not blow away fantasy managers, but the 2023 third-round pick is looking solid in his first professional campaign. Even with the decent production, the 20-year-old defenseman is unlikely to earn a call-up this season or will serve as little more than an emergency depth option if he does.

  • Flames' Henry Mews: Lighting it up following trade

Mews has continued to put up huge numbers, with two goals and 15 assists in 12 games, after being traded to OHL Sudbury from OHL Ottawa.

Mews has racked up a combined 67 points in 50 OHL games this year and should cruise to career-best numbers this season. At just 18 years of age, the blueliner likely will have to spend another year in junior before making the jump to the professional ranks.

  • Flames' Kevin Rooney: Still slumping in fourth-line role

Rooney has gone 23 games without a point after being held off the scoresheet in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Rooney has fended off a challenge for playing time from Clark Bishop, who is back with AHL Calgary. Despite the slump, Rooney remains the Flames' preferred option for the fourth-line center spot. He has four points, 32 shots on net, 70 hits, 25 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 44 appearances this season. It's unlikely he'll reach the 10-point mark by the end of the campaign -- he hasn't gotten there since 2021-22 with the Rangers, when he had 12 points over 61 outings.

  • Flames' Daniil Miromanov: Collects assist Saturday

Miromanov notched an assist, two shots on goal, two blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Miromanov's playing time began to waver in December -- since Dec. 14, he's appeared in just eight of 25 contests. His helper Saturday was his first point in that span. The 27-year-old blueliner is at seven points, matching his career high, and he's added 44 shots on net, 51 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating over 36 outings this season. When Miromanov plays, he's often alongside MacKenzie Weegar in a second-pairing role. Down the stretch, Miromanov is likely to compete with Joel Hanley (personal) and Jake Bean for playing time.

  • Flames' Yegor Sharangovich: Hands out helper Saturday

Sharangovich registered an assist and two shots on goal in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Sharangovich has two goals and two assists across his last four outings. Despite a slow start to the season, the 26-year-old has maintained a middle-six role and is starting to display some of the scoring touch that led him to a career year in 2023-24. This season, he's at 22 points, 94 shots on net and a minus-6 rating over 48 appearances, but he's earned half of his points across the last 14 contests.

  • Flames' MacKenzie Weegar: Generates assist in overtime loss

Weegar notched an assist, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Weegar extended his assist streak to five games (six helpers), though this was the first contest in that span that didn't include a power-play point. The 31-year-old defenseman is up to 31 points (14 on the power play), 120 shots on net, 145 hits, 118 blocked shots, 25 PIM and a plus-11 rating through 55 appearances. Weegar continues to do it all in a top-four role, though he's likely to fall short of matching last season's 20-goal, 52-point performance.

  • Flames' Jonathan Huberdeau: Reaches 20-assist mark

Huberdeau produced an assist and two PIM in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Huberdeau has earned two goals and three assists during his four-game point streak. The winger set up a Nazem Kadri tally in the third period of Saturday's contest. Huberdeau has 21 goals, 20 helpers, 103 shots on net, 45 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating over 55 appearances. He's on pace to challenge for his first 60-point campaign in three years as a Flame, as his commitment to a stronger two-way game has in turn unlocked a bit more offense.

  • Flames' Morgan Frost: Mixed results Saturday

Frost scored a goal on two shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Frost's goal opened the scoring, but his penalty in overtime led to the Kraken's winning goal. Frost's already making himself comfortable against the Kraken -- he has two goals in two games against the Flames' division rivals since he was acquired via trade from the Flyers. Those are all of his points for Calgary, and the 25-year-old is at 13 goals, 27 points, 98 shots on net, 40 blocked shots, 40 hits and a minus-13 rating over 54 appearances.

  • Flames' Nazem Kadri: Buries goal in overtime loss

Kadri scored a goal on three shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Kadri's third-period tally stretched the Flames' lead to 2-0, but they couldn't hold it. The center is on a roll with four goals and seven assists over his last 10 outings, including six points during an active five-game streak. For the season, the 34-year-old has 19 goals, 40 points, 183 shots on net, 57 PIM and a minus-15 rating across 55 outings in a top-six role.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Squanders two-goal lead

Wolf stopped 25 of 28 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken.

Wolf's pursuit of the 20-win threshold will have to wait until after the 4 Nations Face-Off. The 23-year-old took his fourth straight loss (0-3-1) Saturday, and he's allowed 14 goals in that span. He's now at 19-11-3 on the year, and he's added a strong 2.63 GAA and .912 save percentage through 33 appearances. Following the break, the Flames host the Sharks on Feb. 23 before embarking on a brutal six-game road trip that will have the Flames facing four of the top six teams in the Eastern Conference in a stretch that could make or break their playoff hopes.

  • Flames' Ilya Solovyov: Reassigned Saturday

Solovyov was reassigned to AHL Calgary on Saturday.

Solovyov was up with the big club to cover for the absence of Joel Hanley (personal) for Saturday's contest. It's unclear if the 24-year-old Solovyov will get another look following the 4 Nations Face-Off break.

  • Flames' Adam Klapka: Sent down after game

Klapka was reassigned to AHL Calgary on Saturday.

Klapka was a healthy scratch for Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken. The 24-year-old has one goal and 42 hits over 12 NHL appearances this season. If he gets recalled again, it'll likely be to fill a fourth-line role.

  • Flames' Dryden Hunt: Heads back to AHL Calgary

Hunt was reassigned to AHL Calgary on Saturday.

Hunt will return to the minors after making one appearance with the big club. The 29-year-old could be a candidate to be recalled following the 4 Nations Face-Off.

  • Flames' Joel Hanley: Unavailable Saturday

Hanley (personal) will miss Saturday's game against Seattle to be with his wife for the birth of their child, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports.

Hanley has three assists, 24 hits and 45 blocked shots across 27 games this season. He will probably return to the lineup against San Jose on Feb. 23 after the 4 Nations Face-Off. Ilya Solovyov will enter the lineup to replace Hanley on Saturday.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: In goal against Kraken

Wolf will patrol the home crease versus Seattle on Saturday, according to Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

Wolf has lost his last three starts, allowing 11 goals on 87 shots (.874 save percentage). The rookie has been outstanding this season, going 19-11-2 with a pair of shutouts, a 2.63 GAA and a .913 save percentage. He is in the conversation for the Calder Trophy, along with Macklin Celebrini and Lane Hutson. The Kraken are generating 2.95 goals per game, 15th in the NHL this season.

  • Flames' Martin Pospisil: Posts assist in loss

Pospisil notched an assist, four shots on goal and six hits in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Avalanche.

Pospisil has three helpers and 26 hits over his last five contests. The 25-year-old continues to see middle-six usage, adding plenty of physicality and a little depth offense. For the season, he has three goals, 15 helpers, 75 shots on net, 192 hits, 72 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 54 appearances. He's also avoided suspensions so far in 2024-25 -- he had one in March of last season, but he can be a solid fantasy option in formats that reward his heavy play as long as he doesn't cross the line.

  • Flames' MacKenzie Weegar: Helps out on power play

Weegar posted a power-play assist, three shots on goal and two blocked shots in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Avalanche.

Weegar has five helpers, including four on the power play, over four outings in February. He had all of six points in January, so he's picked up the pace recently. The 31-year-old blueliner is up to 30 points (14 on the power play), 118 shots on net, 144 hits, 116 blocked shots and a plus-9 rating through 54 contests overall. Weegar's all-around play remains strong, and there's virtually no chance he slips out of a top-four role.
