Top Devils News

  • Devils' Anton Silayev: Gets first goal of KHL season

Silayev scored a goal in Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod's 5-2 win over Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk in the KHL on Tuesday.

Silayev has had a brutal year so far, earning a mere two points in 35 outings for Torpedo. He was limited to 12 points in 63 appearances in the 2024-25 regular season, so it's a little disappointing that he's struggled so much while seeing his average ice time plummet from 17:25 per game last year to 13:01 this year. The Devils prospect has the defensive chops to carve out an NHL role someday, but his offense has not impressed yet.

  • Devils' Arseny Gritsyuk: Not going on road trip

Gritsyuk (upper body) didn't participate in Tuesday's practice and won't accompany the Devils on the team's upcoming two-game road trip, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Gritsyuk is unlikely to be an option to play against Vegas and Utah on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. However, it's unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. The 24-year-old rookie has seven goals, 16 points, 72 shots on net and 31 hits through 31 appearances this season.

  • Devils' Brett Pesce: Expected back Wednesday

Pesce (upper body) is slated to return for Wednesday's clash with Vegas, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.

Pesce will need to be activated off long-term injured reserve in order to get into the lineup versus the Knights, but all signs point to the blueliner returning from his 24-game absence. In limited action this season (nine games), the New York native hasn't offered much offensive upside, generating zero goals and eight shots to go with a trio of assists.

  • Devils' Simon Nemec: Placed on IR

Nemec was put on injured reserve Tuesday.

Nemec has missed back-to-back games as a result of his lower-body injury, and he'll now be forced to miss at least one more. Dougie Hamilton will continue to see the biggest uptick in ice time due to Nemec's absence, as the former has received more work than his usual allotment on the right side of New Jersey's blue line in the last two contests. With Nemec's placement on injured reserve freeing up a roster spot, Nathan Legare was recalled from AHL Utica on Tuesday.

  • Devils' Nathan Legare: Promoted from minors

Legare was called up from AHL Utica on Tuesday.

Legare has seen action in just one game for the Devils this year, recording two hits and one block in 8:15 of ice time versus the Capitals back in November. Even with Arseny Gritsyuk (undisclosed) in doubt to face the Knights on Wednesday, Legare is far from a lock to get into the lineup and would need to edge out the likes of Xavier Parent or Angus Crookshank.

  • Devils' Dawson Mercer: Adds assist Sunday

Mercer registered an assist and placed a shot on goal in Sunday's 2-1 loss to Vancouver.

Mercer picked up a secondary helper on Luke Hughes' goal in the second period. With the apple, Mercer has 12 assists, 22 points, 66 shots on goal and 25 blocks through 33 appearances this season. He used Sunday's contest to earn his first point since moving out to the right wing to play alongside Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt on New Jersey's top line. The assist snapped a six-game drought and gives Mercer a solid outlook in fantasy moving forward if he continues to see a high volume of minutes. He is on pace to post his first 40-plus point campaign since the 2022-23 season.

  • Devils' Jesper Bratt: Dishes helper in loss

Bratt distributed an assist and put four shots on goal in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Canucks.

Bratt slid the primary helper on New Jersey's lone goal of Sunday's contest. With the apple, he is up to 23 assists, 29 points, 74 shots on goal and 35 hits through 33 games this season. Since his move to the top-line left wing role three games ago with Timo Meier (personal) out of the lineup, Bratt has a point in each outing. With New Jersey struggling as of late, the 27-year-old winger's steady contributions to the offense are encouraging signs for him in fantasy. Bratt is on pace for his fifth consecutive campaign with 70-plus points with an outside shot to reach 80 this season.

  • Devils' Luke Hughes: Lights lamp in loss

Hughes scored a goal and fired five shots on net in Sunday's 2-1 loss to Vancouver.

While Sunday's contest was circled on the calendar to be a showdown between Luke and his brother Quinn Hughes before the latter was traded to Minnesota two days prior, Luke ensured that a Hughes brother found the scoresheet with his goal in the second period. He is up to three goals, 18 points, 77 shots on net and 26 blocked shots through 33 games this season. Despite New Jersey's recent struggles, the 22-year-old blueliner has played well offensively with four points and 15 shots on goal in his last five games. The third-year defenseman was also given the keys to New Jersey's power play, even with Dougie Hamilton healthy. Hughes is on track to reach the 40-point mark for the third consecutive year, and his solid category coverage, to go along with his above-average offensive play from the blue line, gives him good value in most fantasy formats.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Allows two power-play goals

Markstrom made 13 of 15 saves in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Canucks.

Markstrom fell victim to the new-look Canucks, who came out of the gate hungry in Sunday's game by scoring two power-play goals in the first seven minutes of the contest. With the loss, the 35-year-old netminder has an 8-7-1 record with a 3.56 GAA and an .874 save percentage through 17 games this season. While it should be noted that Markstrom played well down the stretch of Sunday's contest, he is having a career-worst year in many major stat categories. While he still holds bounce-back appeal in fantasy and is potentially worth a stash in deep leagues, there are likely stronger options available in standard league formats. His next chance to start is Wednesday on the road against the Golden Knights.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Tending twine Sunday

Markstrom will patrol the home crease against Vancouver on Sunday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Markstrom will get the second half of New Jersey's back-to-back after Jake Allen played in Saturday's 4-1 win over Anaheim. The 35-year-old Markstrom has gone 8-6-1 this season with a 3.66 GAA and an .875 save percentage through 16 appearances. Vancouver is tied for 26th in the league with 2.74 goals per game this year.

  • Devils' Connor Brown: Pots empty-netter

Brown scored an empty-net goal on two shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Ducks.

Brown ended a nine-game goal drought with the tally, a span in which he had four assists. The 31-year-old winger is firmly in a middle-six role and has offered decent supporting offense this season. He's at seven goals, 13 points, 31 shots on net, 19 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over 25 appearances.

  • Devils' Colton White: Three assists in last two games

White delivered two assists in a 4-1 win over Anaheim on Saturday.

White went 10 games this season before recording a point, and now he has three assists in his last two games. He put up six assists in 46 regular-season games in 2022-23, his last season in the NHL. Overall, White has 13 helpers in 96 NHL regular-season games over six different campaigns.

  • Devils' Cody Glass: Three-game, four-point streak

Glass scored a goal Saturday in a 4-1 win over the Ducks.

He beat Lukas Dostal with a snap shot from the high slot in the second period to push the score to 3-1. Glass is on a three-game, four-point scoring streak (two goals, two assists; 11 shots), and he and his linemates (Ondrej Palat and Connor Brown) caught fire Saturday with two goals and two assists.

... See More ... See Less
  • Devils' Paul Cotter: Surprising three-game goal streak

Cotter scored a goal in Saturday's 4-1 win over Anaheim.

Cotter netted the game-winner early in the second period with a wrist shot that beat Lukas Dostal. It's the third straight game that he's scored a goal (three goals, one assist). This won't last -- he has just five goals (10 points) in 32 games this season. However, Cotter is hot enough to consider a waiver pickup if you're streaming forwards.

... See More ... See Less
  • Devils' Ondrej Palat: First points in six games

Palat picked up two assists Saturday in a 4-1 win over the Ducks.

Palat recorded his first points in six games to give him seven (two goals, five assists) in 32 contests this season. The 34-year-old winger is on pace for fewer than 20 points. That would be the lowest seasonal production of Palat's career. Last season, he delivered just 28 points, including 15 goals, in 77 games.

... See More ... See Less
  • Devils' Juho Lammikko: First points of season

Lammikko delivered two assists in Saturday's 4-1 win over Anaheim.

The points were his first this season (16 games) after putting up 15 (seven goals, eight assists) in 75 contests during the 2024-25 regular season. With limited contributions in secondary categories like hits, blocks and shots, Lammikko is clearly best suited to an on-ice role than in the fantasy arena.

... See More ... See Less
  • Devils' Stefan Noesen: Rare goal in win

Noesen scored a goal Saturday in a 4-1 win over the Ducks.

Noesen has had a slow start to the season. He has two goals, three assists and 35 shots through 26 games after putting up 22 goals, 19 assists and 165 shots in 78 regular-season outings during the 2024-25 campaign. Much of last year's success came from his deployment on the power play, where he delivered 11 goals and four assists. This year, Noesen has just one power-play assist.
