After losing to the Marshall Thundering Herd the last time they met, the Charlotte 49ers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Charlotte took their contest against Marshall on Saturday 24-13.
The 49ers' offense had trouble getting into gear in the first half and closed the half with seven points. As for Marshall, they scored ten to put the 49ers at a 10-7 disadvantage heading into the break. The Charlotte offense took control in the second half, however, scoring 17 points.
Charlotte's success was spearheaded by the efforts of WR Victor Tucker, who caught five passes for 121 yards and punched in one rushing TD, and QB Chris Reynolds, who picked up 145 yards on the ground on 25 carries and accumulated 166 passing yards. Charlotte also got a significant boost from RB Benny LeMay, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 100 yards.
The win got Charlotte back to even at 5-5. The Thundering Herd's overall record now falls to 7-3.
The 49ers will take on the Old Dominion Monarchs at 2 p.m. ET next week at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. Unlike the 49ers, Old Dominion will be limping in after taking a loss. As for the Thundering Herd, they will go up against the FIU Panthers at noon ET at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
