SMU vs. North Texas updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Friday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the SMU vs. North Texas football game
SMU is 7-1 against North Texas since September of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The SMU Mustangs will be playing at home against the North Texas Mean Green at 9:00 p.m. ET at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. North Texas is crawling into this contest hobbled by three consecutive losses, while SMU will bounce in with five consecutive wins.
SMU was not the first on the board last Saturday, but they got there more often. They snuck past Rice with a 36-31 win.
Preston Stone was his usual excellent self, rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, while also throwing for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Collin Rogers did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and three extra points.
SMU's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Elijah Roberts and his 2.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, North Texas came up short against UTSA on Saturday and fell 37-29.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ayo Adeyi, who rushed for 105 yards.
SMU's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.7 points per game. As for North Texas, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
While only SMU took care of their fans the last time they played, neither team managed to cover. Looking ahead, SMU is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 16.5 points. This contest will be their sixth straight as the favorites (so far over this stretch they are 3-2 against the spread).
Everything came up roses for SMU against North Texas in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 48-10 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was North Texas' Oscar Adaway III, who rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will SMU still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
