Parker allowed two runs on four hits while striking out four across four innings during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins. Parker was scratched from his last spring start after feeling stiffness in his neck, but he gained clearance to toss a side session Friday and ultimately took the bump for Monday's exhibition. It's a great sign that Parker was able to eat up four innings in his latest start, likely indicating there isn't much concern about his availability for the start of the regular season.... Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Dealing with neck stiffness
Parker didn't pitch in Wednesday's Grapefruit League against the Marlins as anticipated due to neck stiffness, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports. Manager Dave Martinez said Parker initially reported the issue Tuesday and is now feeling a bit better, but the team decided to keep him out of action Wednesday as a precaution. The Nats will likely wait until he's back to 100 percent before sending him back on the mound in a Grapefruit League game.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Pitches poorly in no-decision
Parker allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five batters over 3.1 innings in a no-decision in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with Pittsburgh. Parker fell behind quickly in the contest, allowing a pair of runs in the first inning and another in the second. He was able to get through a scoreless third but was pulled in the fourth after allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base (he was credited with one out when Alika Williams was thrown out trying to score on a double). Overall, Parker threw just 46 of 78 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with four free passes. This marks the third time across his past five starts that he's failed to complete more than four frames.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Fans eight in defeat
Parker (7-9) took the loss Sunday against the Cubs, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out eight in six innings. Parker matched his season best with eight punchouts, throwing a whopping 72 percent of his pitches for strikes. The 24-year-old pitched well despite taking the loss, allowing one extra-base hit while notching his 10th quality start of the season. Parker now owns a respectable 4.27 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 117:35 K:BB in 132.2 innings (25 starts). Parker will look to get back in the win column his next time out, currently scheduled for next weekend in Pittsburgh.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Blanks Brewers
Parker (6-6) picked up the win Sunday against Milwaukee, allowing three hits and three walks with three strikeouts across six scoreless innings. Parker fired his first scoreless start since April, shutting down the Brewers to pick up his first win in eight starts. The outing avenged Parker's poor showing against Milwaukee on July 13 when he allowed five runs in two-thirds of an inning before being yanked. The rookie left-hander has struggled after logging a 3.06 ERA across his first 12 starts, stumbling to a 5.82 ERA in 38.2 innings since. He'll look to build upon Sunday's momentum in his next start, which is tentatively lined up to come against the Angels on Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: No-decision versus Arizona
Parker allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks. Parker was unlucky to take the loss, as the Nationals had an 8-2 lead when he was relieved by Jacob Barnes. This was an improvement for Parker, who had given up at least five runs in three of his four previous starts. The southpaw is now at a 4.31 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 84:26 K:BB through 100.1 innings over 19 starts. He'll look to snap a seven-start winless skid in his next outing, which is projected to come at home versus the Brewers this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Tagged for five runs
Parker allowed five runs on three hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning in a no-decision Saturday at Milwaukee. He struck out two. The rookie left-hander gave up just one earned run over seven innings during his previous outing, but he was unable to make it out of the opening frame Saturday. It's the first time through 17 starts that Parker has failed to complete at least four innings, and the poor showing ballooned his ERA by nearly half a run. The 25-year-old still heads into the All-Star break with an effective 3.90 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 76:19 K:BB across 92.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Fans six in loss
Parker (5-5) took the loss Monday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out six. After pitching to a 5.82 ERA across 17 innings over his last three outings, Parker looked much sharper against St. Louis, tossing his sixth quality start of the season. The Washington rookie yielded just one extra-base hit -- a 415-foot solo shot to Paul Goldschmidt in the fourth. Although the 24-year-old southpaw hasn't tallied a win since June 16, he has been a dependable starter overall with a 3.44 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 74:19 K:BB across 91.2 innings. Parker is tentatively scheduled to pitch against the Brewers on the road in his next start this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Yields five runs in no-decision
Parker allowed five runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five batters in a no-decision against the Mets on Wednesday. Parker allowed only five batters to get on base, but all of those reached on an extra-base hit, and three hitters went deep against the rookie. It was just the second time through 15 starts that Parker has allowed multiple homers in an outing and the first time he's given up three long balls. The southpaw's five earned runs were a season-high mark, but he still owns a respectable 3.61 ERA through 84.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Strikes out five in loss
Parker (5-4) took the loss against the Rays on Friday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts over five innings. Parker surrendered a solo home run to Jose Siri in the second inning and another run on an RBI single by Isaac Paredes in the third. He rebounded with two perfect innings but was pulled after the fifth at 92 pitches. The southpaw has completed at least five frames in 12 of 14 starts this season and now owns a 3.32 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 63:18 K:BB in 2024. He lines up for a home matchup against the Mets next week.... Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Fans eight in no-decision
Parker did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Rockies on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over six innings while striking out eight. All four runs against Parker came over the first three innings, topped off by a three-run blast from Brendan Rodgers. However, the right-hander would go on to finish strong, striking out the side in the sixth and fanning six of the final 12 batters he faced on the night. Parker matched his season high with eight strikeouts in the contest, and he's now gone at least six innings in three of his last four starts, posting a 15:5 K:BB over that stretch.... See More ... Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Quality start again in win
Parker (4-2) earned the win Monday against Atlanta, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out six. With a 100-pitch effort, Parker tossed his second straight quality start and third of the season. The Nationals starter generated a solid 17 whiffs to collect his six strikeouts. The 24-year-old lefty continues an impressive rookie campaign, now owning a 3.45 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 38:8 K:BB in 44.1 innings. Parker is tentatively scheduled to pitch against the Guardians on the road in his next start.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Solid in win
Parker (3-2) earned the win Monday against the Twins, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven. Parker tossed his second quality start of the season, requiring 94 pitches to complete the accomplishment. The rookie southpaw has impressed in his first 38 career innings, posting a 3.32 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB. Parker currently lines up to face the Mariners in his next start this weekend.... Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Starting Game 2 of twin bill
Parker will start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox. This won't disrupt Parker's routine, as he was already scheduled to take the mound Tuesday. He'll get the ball for the nightcap after Trevor Williams toes the rubber in Game 1.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Falls just short of quality start
Parker allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Wednesday. Parker served up his first two homers of the season -- both solo shots -- in the contest, but those were the only runs he allowed. He was given the hook after throwing only 77 pitches with two outs in the sixth inning, preventing him from notching his second quality start. Despite that disappointment and the fact that he fanned only three batters, this was another positive outing for the rookie, as he's now given up two or fewer runs in four of his five appearances. Parker has made a strong impression in the majors thus far with a 2.67 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB over 27 innings through five starts.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Takes first loss
Parker (2-1) took the loss against Texas on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.1 innings. Parker had his least-effective outing through four big-league starts, giving up a season-high three runs while taking his first career loss. The southpaw still managed to keep Washington within striking distance, but the Nationals' offense failed to scratch against four Rangers pitchers. Parker's ERA is still a commendable 2.53, and it's supported by a strong 1.08 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB through 21.1 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Permits one run over four frames
Parker took a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Marlins, permitting one run on six hits and two walks over four innings. The Marlins made Parker work, particularly in the first inning when he gave up two singles, walked two and allowed a run on a wild pitch. He needed 82 pitches to cover his four frames, ultimately costing him what would have been an easy win. It was easily the least impressive of Parker's three starts so far in the majors, but he still managed to give up just the one run. The lefty's next start is tentatively slated to come on the road versus the Rangers.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Dominates Astros for second win
Parker (2-0) earned the win Sunday, allowing no runs on three hits over seven innings against the Astros. He struck out eight. Parker needed only 73 pitches to shut down the Astros through seven, scattering three singles and only allowing one baserunner to reach second base. Parker has allowed just two runs on seven hits with no walks and 12 strikeouts over 12 innings in his first two career starts against the Dodgers and Astros, winning both decisions. It's tough to envision the Nationals removing Parker from the rotation following two-consecutive impressive performances, especially with Josiah Gray (elbow) currently on the shelf. His next start is tentatively scheduled for next weekend when the Nationals travel to Miami to take on the struggling Marlins.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Draws another start
Parker is slated to start Sunday's game against the Astros at Nationals Park, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Parker was able to limit a tough Dodgers lineup to two runs on four hits and no walks over five innings Monday in his big-league debut, so it comes as little surprise that he'll be rewarded for his efforts with another turn through the rotation. If he continues to perform well, Parker will have a path to sticking in the rotation on a long-term basis with Josiah Gray (elbow) facing an uncertain timeline to return from the 15-day injured list.... Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Beats Dodgers in big-league debut
Parker (1-0) earned the win Monday in the Nationals' 6-4 win over the Dodgers, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four batters over five innings. Parker was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Monday afternoon and faced the daunting task of going up against a loaded Dodgers lineup in his first major-league outing. The 24-year-old southpaw handled the task with aplomb, allowing just four baserunners and limiting Los Angeles to a pair of runs to nab the win. Given his successful debut, Parker will likely remain in the rotation for the time being with Josiah Gray on the 15-day injured list due to a right flexor strain.... See More ... See Less
