Royals' Salvador Perez: Ends slump Monday
Perez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-1 win over the Marlins.
Perez had gone 0-for-14 over his previous four games, and he'd gone seven contests without an extra-base hit. Both droughts ended when the catcher went back-to-back with Vinnie Pasquantino in the fourth inning, with Perez's homer serving as the decisive run. A poor June -- 11-for-57 (.157) over 20 games -- has taken some of the shine off of what was a strong start to the year for Perez. He's now slashing .280/.352/.462 with 12 homers, 46 RBI, 29 runs scored and 15 doubles through 77 contests.

Royals' Salvador Perez: Back in lineup as DH
Perez (knee) will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup in Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Perez is battling a right knee sprain, but it's said to be relatively minor. He'll play through the injury Sunday, albeit in a non-defensive role. It's uncertain when he may return to catching duties. The team recalled Austin Nola from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday, and Nola's presence on the roster affords Perez and the Royals some time to get him right before he slots back in behind the plate.

Royals' Salvador Perez: Removed with knee discomfort
Perez was pulled from Friday's game against the Dodgers due to right knee discomfort.
Perez hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give Kansas City a 3-0 lead, but his knee caused him to come out of the game during the eighth. It's unclear how severe the backstop's injury is, but the Royals should know more before Saturday's contest. If he does have to miss any amount of time, Freddy Fermin would be the next man up as Kansas City's main catcher.

Royals' Salvador Perez: Could be back Sunday
Perez has a right knee sprain but is expected to be back in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers or Tuesday against Oakland, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.
An MRI revealed Perez is dealing with just a minor sprain and some inflammation in his right knee, which is encouraging news after he was pulled from Friday's game against Los Angeles. While Perez is expected to be back in the lineup as soon as Sunday, it's possible he'll DH for a few games to get his knee back to full strength, especially after the Royals called up Austin Nola on Saturday.

Perez walked three times in a game for the first time in his career. The catcher has gone just 6-for-33 (.182) over 10 contests in June, but he's shown rare patience at the plate by drawing eight walks in that span. For the season, he's at a .302/.381/.488 slash line with 10 home runs, 42 RBI, 26 runs scored, 15 doubles and no stolen bases, and his 9.0 percent walk rate is double his previous career high, which was in a 39-game sample as a rookie in 2011.

Royals' Salvador Perez: Reaches 10-homer mark
Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI double and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Twins.
Perez has hit safely in five straight games, going 6-for-21 (.286) in that span. The homer was his first since May 20 and his 10th of the year. He also crossed the 40-RBI mark Wednesday, getting him past halfway to matching his total of 80 RBI over 140 contests last year. The catcher is slashing .325/.386/.537 through 55 games in 2024.

It was a close game until the sixth inning, when Perez ignited a six-run rally for the Royals with his solo shot. The catcher has hit safely in six straight games, going 10-for-21 (.476) in that span. the homer was his first since May 3. Perez remains one of the top hitters in baseball this season with a .341/.404/.565 slash line, nine long balls, 38 RBI, 19 runs scored and 11 doubles over 47 contests.
