  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: X-rays clean

Rays manager Kevin Cash said after Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Red Sox that X-rays on Kim's left foot came back clean, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. Kim went hitless in three at-bats during the contest. In his seventh-inning plate appearance, Kim fouled a ball off his foot before ultimately striking out. He was then lifted from the game in the bottom of the inning, with Taylor Walls shifting over from second base to cover Kim's spot at shortstop. The Rays are viewing the infielder as day-to-day, and the hope is that he'll be ready to return to the lineup Friday against the Orioles in the team's first game out of the All-Star break.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Taking seat Friday

Kim is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Kim started the previous three games and will head to the bench Friday after going 4-for-12 with a double, a homer and three RBI. Taylor Walls will step in at shortstop for Tampa Bay.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Slugs first homer

Kim went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Red Sox. Kim opened the scoring for the Rays by blasting his first home run of the season in the fourth inning. He's settled into an everyday role since returning from both shoulder and calf injuries, starting three straight games while hitting fifth or sixth in the lineup. It's a very small sample, but Kim has gone 5-for-15 with two extra-base hits and a stolen base to start his tenure with Tampa Bay.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Good to go Tuesday

Kim (calf) is starting at shortstop and batting fifth Tuesday against the Tigers, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. Kim sat out the previous three games due to a right calf strain, but he'll rejoin the starting nine after Monday's team off day. After recovering from shoulder surgery and missing the first three-plus months of the season, the 29-year-old lasted just seven innings during his season debut Friday before suffering the calf injury.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Not in Sunday's lineup

Kim (calf) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins, though he ran at about 80 percent, played catch and took swings in the batting cage prior to the contest, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 29-year-old made an early exit in his Rays debut during Friday's 4-3 loss after his right calf started to cramp up, and he'll sit Sunday for a second consecutive game while Taylor Walls draws the start at shortstop. Kim doesn't appear headed for a stint on the injured list but could miss another day or two, depending how his calf responds to the more intensive workouts.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Sitting Saturday

Kim (calf) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Twins, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. Kim had to leave his Rays debut early Friday after his calf began to cramp up on him in the seventh inning. He'll take an extra day off to recover Saturday; meanwhile, Taylor Walls will start at shortstop and bat seventh.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Day-to-day with calf injury

Kim was removed from Friday's game against the Twins due to a right calf injury, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. After spending the first several months of the season on the injured list due to shoulder and hamstring injuries, Kim's Rays debut came to an early end after he injured his calf attempting to steal third base in the seventh inning. Manager Kevin Cash said after the game that Kim is considered day-to-day, so it doesn't seem like the 29-year-old infielder is headed for another IL stint. Taylor Walls will likely start any games Kim has to miss.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Restarting rehab assignment

Kim (shoulder/hamstring) will resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Kim started the season on the 60-day injured list due to offseason surgery on his right shoulder. He was cleared to embark on a rehab assignment in late May, but he was pulled after experiencing tightness in his right hamstring. After resuming light baseball activities, Kim has been cleared to play in Friday's game with Durham, when he will serve as the designated hitter.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Resumes baseball activity

Kim (shoulder/hamstring) resumed light baseball activity Monday, MLB.com reports. Kim was pulled off a rehab assignment Thursday due to hamstring tightness. Assuming his ramp-up goes well, he is expected to resume work with Triple-A Durham within the next week.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Dealing with hamstring issue

Kim (shoulder) was pulled off his minor-league rehab assignment Thursday due to right hamstring tightness, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. Kim has yet to play in the majors this season while he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery, but he did begin a rehab assignment late last month and has appeared in 12 games for Triple-A Durham. Across 49 trips to the plate with Durham, Kim is slashing .211/.347/.263 with just two extra-base hits, four RBI, eight runs scored, two stolen bases and an 8:5 BB:K. Kim is expected to resume his rehab stint as soon as next week.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Makes first defensive appearance

Kim (shoulder) started at second base Sunday, continuing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham, MLB.com reports. Kim made his fifth total appearance with Durham on Sunday, but it marked the first time he fielded a position. Overall, he's gone 2-for-16 with two walks, two RBI and a stolen base. Kim should be activated by mid-June.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Closing in on rehab assignment

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Kim (shoulder) could begin participating in the rookie-level Florida Complex League by the end of the week, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. Kim remains on the 60-day injured list and is still waiting to make his Rays debut after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder last October, but he seems to be approaching the finish line in a long recovery process. According to Bass, Kim was on the field prior to Monday's game against the Astros and was taking grounders in the middle infield and making throws to first base at what appeared to be full velocity. Cash added that Kim will take live batting practice and see more involvement in defensive work as the weeks rolls along, and if all goes well, the 29-year-old will take part in his first game action in the minors. Kim is expected to be in line for a brief stay in the FCL before joining up with a higher-level minor-league affiliate as soon as next week.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: No significant change in recovery

Kim (shoulder) is increasing the intensity of his baseball activities, MLB.com reports. Kim visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache on April 24, but he reported that "nothing has changed" in his recovery process. It was noted that Kim is throwing, hitting and fielding with increased intensity, but no further details were offered. Kim is projected to return in late May.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Getting checkup next week

Kim will travel with the Rays to the West Coast next week to get a checkup with Dr. Neal El Attrache, who performed his October right shoulder surgery, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. Kim has been throwing while taking infield and doing other baseball activities and will be looked at by Dr. El Attrache to check his progress. The 29-year-old aims to make his season debut before the end of May, and it's possible a timetable for a rehab assignment will come into focus after next week's exam.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Opens season on IL

The Rays placed Kim (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Thursday. Kim didn't play in any games during spring training while continuing his recovery from October surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, but he was throwing, hitting and taking part in fielding drills by the end of the spring. The 29-year-old expressed optimism that he'll be ready to come off the IL by the end of April, but a May debut looks more realistic for Kim, who should handle an everyday role in the middle infield once he's officially cleared.

  • Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Targeting late-May return

The Rays are targeting late May for the season debut of Kim (shoulder), Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Kim had said earlier this offseason that he hoped to be ready to play by mid-April following labrum repair surgery on his right shoulder in October. However, he'll be brought along more slowly than that, effectively missing the first two months of the season. The Rays will use Taylor Walls and Jose Caballero at shortstop until Kim is ready.

  • Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Hoping for mid-April return

Kim (shoulder) is hoping to be ready for game action by mid-April, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Kim underwent shoulder surgery Friday after missing the last six weeks of the regular season and all of the postseason. He's entering free agency and a pivotal offseason, and while he should make a full recovery, he could miss up to the first month of the 2025 campaign.

  • Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Undergoes surgery

Kim underwent labrum repair surgery on his right shoulder Thursday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. A return for the start of the 2025 campaign remains on the table, though no recovery timeline has been disclosed yet. The 28-year-old infielder has an $8 million mutual option with the Padres this offseason, though the fact that Kim recently changed agents is a good indication that he intends to test the open market.

  • Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Will undergo shoulder surgery

Kim told reporters Saturday that he will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Kim has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 20 due to right shoulder inflammation. His rehab was repeatedly stalled as he continued to feel discomfort in his right shoulder, and it was decided Saturday that he would be pulled from his recovery program, per Cassavell. For now, it's unclear whether Kim's procedure will have a recovery timeline that would allow him to return for the start of spring training or if he might miss the start of the 2025 regular season. The 28-year-old infielder ends the year with a slash line of .233/.330/.370 with 22 stolen bases, 11 home runs and 47 RBI across 470 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Set to ramp up throwing

Kim (shoulder) has resumed playing light catch and plans to ramp up the intensity of his throwing in the next few days, Eric He of the Associated Press reports. Kim has been sidelined since Aug. 18 due to right shoulder inflammation. He resumed throwing across the diamond in early September but then had his progress stalled after feeling discomfort while attempting to ramp up the intensity of his throws. Kim will now try to ramp back up again with the hope of being able to return to action before the conclusion of the regular season. Xander Bogaerts recently returned to playing shortstop to fill in for Kim while the latter works his way back.
