  • Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Picks up first career MLB win

Nunez (1-0) gave up an unearned run on one hit and struck out two over 2.2 relief innings Tuesday to record the win over the Yankees. The right-hander fired 21 of 28 pitches for strikes and didn't walk a batter after taking over from David Peterson in the fifth inning with the Mets ahead 6-1, eventually getting credited with his first career win in the majors. Nunez has been outstanding since his promotion in late May, delivering a 1.80 ERA, 0.53 WHIP and 19:1 K:BB through 15 innings and emerging as a key figure in the team's bullpen.

  • Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Returns to mound Sunday

Nunez (nose) allowed two runs on two hits and struck out one in a one-inning relief appearance during Sunday's 5-2 win over the Cubs. Nunez had not pitched since June 15 due to a sinus infection, and he wasn't very sharp after a whole week off. The right-hander served up a two-run home run to Christopher Morel, but that was all the Cubs could muster. Nunez has a 2.89 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB over 18.2 innings this season, and he's added four holds while occasionally seeing high-leverage assignments.

  • Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Collects second hold

Nunez struck out one in 1.1 perfect innings of relief Tuesday to record his second hold of the season in a win over the Nationals. Making his eighth career MLB appearance, the right-hander provided the Mets' beleaguered bullpen with some crucial high-leverage help. Nunez is in his third stint this year on the big-league roster, but he might stick around for good this time around -- through 11.2 innings he sports a 2.31 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB. With Edwin Diaz (shoulder) still sidelined and Reed Garrett, Adam Ottavino and Jake Diekman all struggling, it's not out of the question that Nunez will get added to the saves mix in the short term.

  • Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Up as 27th man

The Mets recalled Nunez from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Nunez will serve as the Mets' 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers and will be available for both games. The right-handed reliever has made four appearances with the big club this season, allowing three runs with a 10:2 K:BB over 6.1 frames. He will likely be sent back down after the doubleheader.

  • Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Back with Mets

The Mets recalled Nunez from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Nunez allowed one run in two innings during his MLB debut against Atlanta on April 9, and he has thrown 7.1 scoreless frames this season in the minors. He'll return to the big leagues to replace Drew Smith (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.
