  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Resumes throwing program

Schmidt (lat) has resumed his throwing program, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander took the first step in his throwing program Monday when he started playing catch, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Schmidt has been out with a right lat strain and was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 18. Before the injury, he had gone 5-3 over 11 starts with a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB over 60.2 innings.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Moves to 60-day IL

The Yankees transferred Schmidt (lat) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.

The Yankees announced Schmidt would be shut down from throwing for 4-to-6 weeks once they placed him on the IL on May 30, so his move to the 60-day IL hardly comes as a surprise. He'll be eligible for activation July 26, but a better idea of his return timeline will have to wait until he's been cleared to throw again.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Shut down for at least one month

Schmidt (lat) will be shut down for 4-to-6 weeks, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Schmidt landed on the injured list Thursday, and he'll be in line for a lengthy absence. He'll be sidelined until the All-Star break, leaving the Yankees shorthanded in the rotation until Gerrit Cole (elbow) can return.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Placed on injured list

The Yankees placed Schmidt on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Schmidt gave up two runs (one earned) in five innings during Sunday's loss to the Padres, and he appears to have injured his lat in the process. His move to the IL is backdated to Monday, so the 28-year-old right-hander will be able to return beginning June 11. In the meantime, Cody Morris will come up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the opening on New York's roster.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Stuck with loss Sunday

Schmidt (5-3) took the loss Sunday against the Padres after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings.

Schmidt took a tough-luck loss in a game during which he took a shutout into the sixth inning. The first two batters in the frame would reach via an error and a walk before Schmidt turned things over to the bullpen. From there, Victor Gonzalez would allow both inherited runners to score. Schmidt registered a solid 16 whiffs on the afternoon and has recorded six or more strikeouts in five straight starts. The 28-year-old is showing signs of a legit breakout campaign and will carry a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB (60.2 innings) into a projected matchup with the Giants this weekend.
