Player Outlook
Michael Toglia played in 45 games for the Rockies last season but spent the final month of the campaign in the minors. He had a .163/.224/.284 slash line with four homers in 152 plate appearances, and he had a 34.6 percent strikeout rate through 76 career big-league contests. The 2019 first-round pick had an .842 OPS with 16 homers in 78 games at Triple-A in 2023, so he has little else to prove offensively at the minor-league level. Toglia should have a chance to earn a place on Colorado's Opening Day roster, but his opportunities are likely to be inconsistent without a significant improvement.

The 25-year-old is up to a .191/.239/.436 slash line with six homers, 20 RBI, 14 runs scored, one stolen base, two triples and one double through 101 plate appearances this season. Toglia is playing on a near-everyday basis, splitting his time between first base and right field.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Solidifying regular lineup spot

Toglia will start at first base and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Twins, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. Since getting recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque while Kris Bryant (ribs) and Sean Bouchard (foot) were simultaneously placed on the injured list, Toglia has started in each of Colorado's ensuing five games. After going 4-for-13 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base, four RBI and a run while making three starts in right field and one at first base during the Rockies' weekend series in St. Louis, Toglia will stay in the lineup at the latter position Monday while Elehuris Montero heads to the bench. Toglia looks poised to retain an everyday role for Colorado so long as he continues to produce at the plate.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Making most of playing time

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Toglia has carried over a power surge from spring training, as he has three home runs across only 26 plate appearances in the regular season. He is still in the Rockies' lineup on an irregular basis, though he has started six of the last 10 games after not starting in any of the team's first three games. Toglia could be working his way into a small-side platoon role, as two of his last three starts have come in right field with Charlie Blackmon sitting against a lefty.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Gets chance with Bryant out

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Rays. It marked Toglia's fourth start through nine games, though he's still one of four hitters on the team with multiple home runs. While he's currently without a regular spot in the lineup, Colorado could turn to him more as it searches to improve its offensive firepower in what has been a sluggish start to the new campaign.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Belts first homer

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 12-2 loss to the Cubs. Getting the start at first base and batting eighth, Toglia spoiled Chicago's combined shutout bid by taking Jose Cuas deep in the seventh inning, but it was the only bright spot on the night for the Rockies. The 25-year-old has started two of the last three games at first base as Kris Bryant splits his time between first and right field, and Toglia has gone 2-for-8 in those contests with Tuesday's blast being his first extra-base hit of the season. Counting DH, Colorado is rotating four players through three spots with Charlie Blackmon and Elehuris Montero also in the mix, so the door could be open for Toglia to claim more playing time if he heats up at the plate.

Toglia has been informed that he has made the Rockies' Opening Day roster, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Toglia beat out Sean Bouchard for the final spot in the outfield. • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Checks back into spring lineup

Toglia (neck) will start at first base and bat cleanup in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Guardians. Toglia was scratched from the starting nine ahead of Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks while he dealt with neck stiffness, but the injury doesn't look to be anything that will derail his bid for the Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old corner outfielder/first baseman has made a compelling case to win a bench role with the Rockies this spring, as he's slashing .333/.429/.700 through his first 14 Cactus League games.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Strong start to Cactus League

Toglia has gone 3-for-7 with two home runs through his first three games of the Cactus League. Toglia has earned 272 plate appearances in the majors combined across the last two seasons, but he's struggled to just a .187/.246/.325 line in that span. As a result, he's in a battle for a roster spot as a reserve at first base and in the outfield, along with the likes of Hunter Goodman and Elehuris Montero. Toglia will need to continue to perform well to ultimately earn a roster spot, but he's made a strong impression early on this spring.

Cole Tucker is being summoned from Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Sitting in third straight

Toglia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The switch-hitting Toglia finds himself on the bench for the third game in a row, this time versus Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman after he had been excluded from the lineup against a pair of southpaws in the first two contests of the series. Dating back to Aug. 9, Toglia is slashing .127/.186/.291 with a 30.5 percent strikeout rate over a stretch of 17 games, and his ongoing slump may have prompted manager Bud Black to pull the plug on the youngster in an everyday role. Elehuris Montero will pick up a third straight start Sunday at Toglia's expense.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Takes seat Wednesday

Toglia is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Tampa Bay. Toglia slugged a home run in Tuesday's loss to the Rays but will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Takes hold of everyday role

Toglia will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Padres. With the Rockies moving first baseman C.J. Cron and outfielder Randal Grichuk ahead of the trade deadline, Toglia appears to be temporarily locked into an everyday role, at least until Colorado gets the likes of Charlie Blackmon (hand) and Kris Bryant (finger) back from the injured list. Toglia will pick up his fifth straight start Wednesday and his 10th start in the last 11 games. He's hitting just .194 with two extra-base hits over his last 10 contests.
