The 2024 Open Championship returns to Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland for the seventh time in history and the first time since Henrik Stenson won with a 20-under-par in 2016. No Open Championship winner has shot better than 20-under-par with only Stenson and Cameron Smith (2022) shooting that well in the final major of the year. Scottie Scheffler is the 5-1 favorite in the latest 2024 Open Championship odds after he showed signs of mortality in finishing T-41 at the U.S. Open. Scheffler has never won an Open Championship and finished inside the top 20 only once in his three Open Championships, so is he worth including in 2024 Open Championship bets as the favorite?

Rory McIlroy (13-2), Bryson DeChambeau (11-1), Xander Schauffele (14-1) and Ludvig Aberg (14-1) follow on the PGA odds board. Aberg, the 24-year-old in his first full-time season on the PGA Tour, finished second at the Masters in his first major and followed by missing the cut and finishing T-12 at the next two majors. Collin Morikawa, who has 16-1 odds to win the 2024 Open Championship, became the fifth player to win the Open Championship in his debut when he won in 2021, so can Aberg do the same for 2024 Open Championship beginning on Thursday, July 18? Before locking in your 2024 Open Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters, its third Masters in a row, and this year's PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the Open Championship 2024 field locked in, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 Open Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Open Championship: Rory McIlroy (13-2), the 2014 Open Championship winner and one of the top favorites, stumbles and doesn't even crack the top five. McIlroy's 10-year major championship drought is well documented, which made his mishaps down the stretch of the U.S. Open even more painful. He missed multiple putts within four feet in the final three holes, leading to a brutal runner-up finish.

It is going to be difficult for McIlroy to overcome those lingering emotions in the final major of the year, especially since the Open Championship brings its own unique pressure for the Northern Irishman. He has finished outside the top 40 in two of his last four appearances at this tournament, and he did not crack the top 10 at the Masters or PGA Championship earlier this season. McIlroy ranks outside the top 50 on the PGA Tour in GIR percentage, which is another reason why the model is fading him in this year's final major. See who else to fade here.

Another surprise: Jon Rahm, a 24-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Rahm had to skip the U.S. Open following a left foot injury. But with a month between the two major events, Rahm should have time to heal and return for the Open Championship.

Rahm finished T-2 at last year's Open Championship for his third top-three showing over his last three Open Championships. Rahm's second career major was played at Royal Troon Golf Club and although that didn't go well (finishing in 59th), he still made the cut and has some familiarity with the course that other golfers may not have with the Open Championship returning to Royal Troon Golf Club for the first time in nearly 10 years. The 29-year-old is a two-time major champion and former World's No. 1 ranked golfer, so at 24-1 odds, McClure likes him in 2024 Open Championship bets. See who else to back here

The model is also targeting two other golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here.
