  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Reaches double-digit homers

Lopez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's loss to the Orioles. The 26-year-old infielder accounted for all of Miami's offense on the night by taking Andrew Kittredge deep in the ninth inning. Lopez is up to double digits in both homers (10) and steals (10) on the year, and since the beginning of June he's slashing a respectable .270/.333/.418 over 36 games with 21 runs and 28 RBI.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Pilfers 10th bag

Lopez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Reds. The 26-year-old infielder keeps finding ways to make a fantasy contribution. Over his last 24 games, Lopez is slashing .289/.346/.402 with three of his nine homers and three of his 10 steals on the season, along with a stunning 15 runs and 20 RBI.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Getting rare day off Monday

Lopez is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Reds. Lopez will exit the starting nine for the first time since May 27 while he's gone just 3-for-22 at the dish so far in July. Javier Sanoja will start at shortstop and bat ninth as the Marlins open a series in Cincinnati.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Swipes bag, knocks in two

Lopez went 1-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks. Lopez got a rare look at leadoff while Xavier Edwards rested for Sunday's game. Lopez has certainly earned the opportunity to fill in atop the lineup -- he's hit safely in his last 10 games, going 17-for-41 (.415) with 15 RBI in that span. The infielder has lifted his batting average from .230 to .260 during the streak, and he's added a .723 OPS, eight home runs, 40 RBI, 36 runs scored and nine steals over 67 contests this season.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Swipes seventh bag

Lopez went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Rays. The 26-year-old has swiped a bag in back-to-back games, giving him seven on the season in 10 attempts. Lopez has picked up the pace at the plate over the last few weeks, slashing .255/.333/.412 over the last 14 contests with two homers, four steals, six runs and eight RBI.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Swipes fifth bag

Lopez went 1-for-4 with a steal and a run scored in Sunday's 3-0 victory over the Angels. The 26-year-old drew his fourth consecutive start at shortstop and stole second off Los Angeles starter Kyle Hendricks in the fourth. After popping a homer in his return from an ankle injury May 18, Lopez has been cold, batting .167 (3-for-18) across five games, though he has notched a pair of steals. Through 145 total plate appearances, Lopez is slashing .221/.297/.328 with three homers, 18 runs scored and 15 RBI while going 5-for-7 on steal attempts.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Notches steal

Lopez went 1-for-3 with two walks, one stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Angels. Lopez has reached base safely in all five contests since he returned from an ankle injury. He's gone 3-for-18 (.167) with four walks, a home run and four RBI in that span. The infielder is up to a .220/.298/.331 slash line with three homers, 15 RBI, 17 runs scored and four steals across 35 contests. He's splitting time between second base and shortstop as part of a middle-infield mix that also includes Javier Sanoja and Ronny Simon, with all three players competing regularly for two spots.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Slugs homer in return

Lopez went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Sunday's 5-1 victory over the Rays. The 26-year-old made his first appearance since May 2 after being activated from the injured list for an ankle injury before the contest. Lopez blasted a 401-foot home run off Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz in the fourth inning to give Miami a 3-1 lead. Lopez is now slashing .230/.293/.354 with three homers and steals apiece through 123 plate appearances. He appears set to re-establish his role as the Marlins' everyday second baseman.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Lands on injured list

The Marlins placed Lopez (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Sunday. The 26-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 sprain of his right ankle Saturday, so it's not a surprise he'll require some time on the IL. Lopez will be eligible to be reinstated May 13 but could require a longer absence. Catcher Nick Fortes (oblique) was activated from the IL in a corresponding move, and Javier Sanoja and Ronny Simon will likely to see more playing time for the Marlins at second base while Lopez is out.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Diagnosed with Grade 2 ankle sprain

Lopez was diagnosed with a Grade 2 right ankle sprain Saturday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Lopez felt discomfort in the ankle Friday and was seen wearing a walking boot Saturday. After receiving test results, the second baseman seems likely to require a stint on the injured list since it's a moderate sprain.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Sitting out Saturday

Lopez (ankle) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Athletics. Lopez made an early exit from Friday's game after twisting his right ankle, and he'll take a day off Saturday to recover. Javier Sanoja will fill in for him at second base and bat ninth.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Exits with ankle injury

Lopez was removed from Friday's game against the Athletics due to right ankle discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Lopez left the game in the second inning before making a plate appearance. It's currently unknown if he's dealing with any structural damage, but the Marlins should provide an update once they take a closer look at him.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Swipes bag in win

Lopez went 3-for-5 with a walk, one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Pirates. Lopez stole his first base of the season in the third inning and later scored the game-winning run in the 12th frame. While the Marlins' lineup may not generate much excitement, the 26-year-old has tallied five hits with a homer, four RBI, three runs scored and a steal across the season's first three games.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Slugs homer in loss to Pittsburgh

Lopez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and walk in a 4-3 loss to the Pirates on Friday. With his team trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lopez gave the Marlins new life with a two-run shot to narrow the gap. The 26-year-old is not known as a power threat with just seven home runs at the major-league level over 419 at-bats, but he enjoyed a solid .270 batting average in 2024 and plays strong defense, so he should be a fixture in the Miami lineup.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Sudden power display Tuesday

Lopez went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. The second baseman touched up Erick Fedde for a two-run homer in the fourth inning before taking Roddery Munoz deep for a solo shot in the sixth. The blasts were Lopez's first extra-base hits this spring, and the 26-year-old didn't display much power in the minors, so it's unlikely this performance was a sign of things to come. His primary fantasy appeal will come on the basepaths -- Lopez swiped 20 bags in 24 attempts over 117 regular-season games in 2024 while slashing .270/.313/.377.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Not starting Saturday

Lopez isn't in the Marlins' lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. Although Lopez has gone 8-for-18 and scored five runs during his five-game hitting streak, the Marlins will sit him down Saturday while Javier Sanoja picks up a start at the keystone.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Idle Sunday

Lopez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta. Lopez will hit the bench for the first time since Aug. 3, with his move to the bench coming after he saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-4 showing in Saturday's 6-2 loss. Vidal Brujan will fill in for Lopez at the keystone.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Swipes bag in return

Lopez went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 6-4 win over the Mets. The 25-year-old infielder had been sidelined since June 30 with lower-back inflammation, but Lopez looked fully recovered in his return to the lineup. He got the start at second base Friday and batted fifth, and Lopez will likely remain at the keystone the rest of the year as the Marlins let him settle in next to shortstop Xavier Edwards as their potential double-play combo of the present and future.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Activated and back in lineup

The Marlins activated Lopez (back) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Lopez has missed much of July with a back injury but is ready to roll after playing a few rehab games. He is starting at second base and batting fifth for the Marlins in Friday's series opener versus the Mets.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Rehabs at Triple-A over weekend

Lopez (back) began a rehab assignment last weekend at Triple-A Jacksonville, appearing in three games while going 2-for-12 with a double and a run scored. Lopez hasn't moved his rehab assignment to the rookie-level Florida Complex League while all of the Marlins' full-season affiliates are in the midst of their All-Star break, but so long as he didn't experience any setbacks with his back this past weekend, he could be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when Miami opens its second-half schedule Friday versus the Mets. Before being placed on the shelf July 4 with lower-back inflammation, Lopez slashed .252/.279/.350 with three home runs and six stolen bases across 174 plate appearances. Lopez could take back primary starting duties at second base from Vidal Brujan once he's activated.
