Pirates' Paul Skenes: Settles for no-decision
Skenes didn't factor into the decision in Friday's win over the Brewers, giving up one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight batters across six innings.
Make it four consecutive quality starts for Skenes, who, despite turning in a 1.73 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in that span, doesn't have a win since late April. He was on his way to changing that Friday after departing the game with a 2-1 lead through six innings, but the Pirates' bullpen gave Milwaukee the lead in the seventh before the team's offense clawed its way back to win the game in extras. The 22-year-old righty will hope for better luck when he faces the Diamondbacks next week.

Pirates' Paul Skenes: Stellar in loss
Skenes (3-5) allowed one run on three hits and a walk over eight innings Sunday, striking out nine and taking a loss against the Phillies.
Skenes was in elite form Sunday and completed eight innings for the second time in his MLB career. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning and gave up just three singles in the outing. Skenes tossed 71 of 102 pitches for strikes and generated a career-high 22 whiffs, including seven with his fastball that averaged 98.2 mph. Since coughing up five runs against the Cardinals on April 8, he's produced a 2.03 ERA with a 42:13 K:BB over his last seven outings. Skenes has produced a quality start in three of his five losses this season. He'll carry a 2.44 ERA into his next matchup, which is lined up to be at home against the Brewers.

Pirates' Paul Skenes: Gives up one run in no-decision
Skenes did not factor into the decision against the Mets on Monday, allowing one run on six hits and three walks while striking out six across six innings.
Skenes was able to pitch himself out of trouble for most of the night, with his lone blemish coming in the fourth inning on a Jeff McNeil RBI double. Skenes generated nine whiffs and 16 first-pitch strikes on 92 pitches and managed to log his sixth quality start of the season. Across 54.2 innings this season, the 22-year-old ace has a 2.63 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, which rank seventh and fifth, respectively, in the National League among qualified starters. Skenes is slated to face the Phillies on the road this weekend.

Pirates' Paul Skenes: Six strong innings despite loss
Skenes (3-4) took the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals after allowing two runs on three hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out six.
While Skenes matched a season high in walks, he also tied a season best with just three hits allowed. After issuing only four free passes through his first six starts in 2025, Skenes has now given up eight walks in his past two outings. On a positive note, the star right-hander has lasted at least five innings in each of his eight appearances this season. He'll take an excellent 2.77 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB over 48.2 frames into his scheduled next start, which lines up for next week in a difficult assignment against the Mets.

Pirates' Paul Skenes: Serves up three homers in loss
Skenes (3-3) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Cubs after surrendering three runs on five hits and four walks over five innings.
The right-hander was staked an early 2-0 lead and kept Chicago off the board through four frames, but Dansby Swanson, Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki hit solo homers during the fifth inning to saddle Skenes with the loss. The 22-year-old set season worsts with two strikeouts and four walks, and it was also the first time this year he didn't work into the sixth inning. The performance breaks a run of three straight quality starts for Skenes, though he still has an impressive 2.74 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 41:8 K:BB on the campaign.
