McCarthy collected three singles for his third multi-hit performance in the last four games and his 13th of the season, lifting his batting average to .298 in the process. He also added a couple of steals to lift his season total to 12, while the two runs scored now gives him 25 across 188 plate appearances.

McCarthy was productive despite generating only one hit. He stole second after walking in the first inning, scored Joc Pederson on a fielder's choice in the third frame and plated Pederson again in the fourth on a sacrifice fly before hitting an RBI triple in the sixth. McCarthy's pilfer was his 10th of the campaign, and his fifth of June. He's slashing .279/.365/.409 through 180 plate appearances.

Despite the fact that right-hander Chris Flexen is starting for Chicago, McCarthy will give way to Randal Grichuk in right field. McCarthy had started five of the D-Backs' previous six games, so it's likely Friday's absence is nothing more than a rest day.
