White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Sent to Arizona to work on swing
White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Tuesday that Montgomery will go to the team's spring training complex in Arizona to work on his swing, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Montgomery will do one-on-one work with director of hitting Ryan Fuller and is expected to remain in Arizona for 1-to-2 weeks. The young shortstop has slashed just .149/.223/.255 with a 41.7 percent strikeout rate this season at Triple-A Charlotte.

White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Scratched from Thursday's lineup
Montgomery was scratched from Triple-A Charlotte's lineup Thursday.
The reason for Montgomery's removal from the lineup is unclear, but no injury has been announced. Montgomery has struggled to start the season with Charlotte, collecting only three hits across 37 at-bats while striking out at a 50 percent clip.

The White Sox optioned Montgomery to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
Montgomery entered camp with an opportunity to win the White Sox' shortstop job, but he's been limited to only four games this spring due to a back issue. The 23-year-old is healthy now, having returned to action Sunday; however, he will begin the season back at Charlotte, where he produced a .214/.329/.381 batting line in 2024. The competition for Chicago's shortstop job now looks to be down to Brooks Baldwin, Chase Meidroth and Jacob Amaya.

White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Missed time won't hurt SS chances
White Sox manager Will Venable said Monday that the time Montgomery missed with a back injury will not hurt his chances of making the Opening Day roster, Daryl Van Schuowen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Montgomery missed 10 days of action before returning to the lineup Sunday. The 23-year-old has accrued only nine plate appearances so far during Cactus League play, but Venable suggests Montgomery could still win the team's shortstop job, saying of the youngster that "there's been a lot of stuff here that we've evaluated," and the "most important thing is just that he's healthy." Brooks Baldwin, Chase Meidroth and Jacob Amaya are competing with Montgomery for the shortstop gig.

Montgomery (back) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Guardians.
Montgomery will be making his first Cactus League appearance since Feb. 25, after back spasms kept him out of action for nearly two weeks. The 23-year-old shortstop is in contention for a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he'll likely need a strong finish to the spring to earn his place with the big club. Coming off a 121-loss season, the White Sox have no visions of contending for a playoff spot in 2025, so they won't have much motivation to start Montgomery's service clock until they're fully confident that he's big-league ready.

White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Hoping to return this weekend
Montgomery (back) is expected to return to Cactus League action as soon as Saturday and no later than Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Montgomery hasn't played in more than a week because of back spasms but is making nice progress. The shortstop took some swings off the Trajekt machine as part of his baseball activities Thursday, and it appears as though his return to the lineup is imminent. Montgomery is competing for the White Sox' shortstop job this spring, so he can't afford to miss much more time.

Montgomery (back) will continue to be held out of action through the White Sox' off day Tuesday before being re-evaluated, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Manager Will Venable said Sunday that Montgomery is "progressing well" as he recovers from back spasms, an injury which first popped up last Thursday. Montgomery has not resumed baseball activities, so a return to game action doesn't appear imminent. The 23-year-old is competing to be Chicago's starting shortstop and the longer the injury lingers, the better the chances are that he opens the season back at Triple-A Charlotte.

White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Pops homer in spring debut
Montgomery went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Cubs.
Montgomery, a first-round pick in 2021, is on the verge of debuting in the majors after logging essentially a full season at the Triple-A level in 2024. Interestingly, MLB.com is projecting Montgomery to be the Opening Day shortstop for the White Sox. The soon-to-be 23-year-old could perhaps benefit from more seasoning in the minors, but he will have the opportunity to force the team's hand this spring.

White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Thursday that he expects Montgomery to be the team's shortstop at some point this season, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Getz was asked about the possibility of Montgomery cracking the Opening Day roster, of which he replied that the youngster would "get a lot of opportunity come spring training." Montgomery is on the 40-man roster, but a bit more seasoning in the minors seems likely after he slashed just .214/.329/.381 at Triple-A Charlotte in 2024. The shortstop turns 23 in February.
