  • Bobby Portis PF | MIL

Bucks' Bobby Portis: Performs well in reserve role

Portis compiled 23 points (8-9 FG, 5-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and an assist across15 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 loss to the Lakers.

Portis drilled a flurry of threes during his time on the floor and nailed all five of his attempts. He matched that feat just once last season, so although Portis can be counted on to take some shots from long range, Thursday's result was an outlier event. Portis led the team in scoring and is expected to play a sixth-man role once again this season.

  • Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo: Scores 20 points in preseason debut

Antetokounmpo logged 20 points (10-18 FG, 0-1 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots across 20 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 loss to the Lakers.

Despite the loss, Antetokounmpo put on a show for the home crowd during his first appearance in the preseason. Although a calf strain kept Antetokounmpo out of the playoffs, he showed no ill effects from the injury over the summer as the leader of Greece's Olympic Team. Bobby Portis also excelled in Thursday's loss, providing evidence that Milwaukee's frontcourt is ready to take care of business.

  • Lakers' Anthony Davis: Struggles iwith shot in 25 minutes

Davis totaled 11 points (5-14 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, three blocked shots, an assist and a steal across 25 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 win over the Bucks.

Although Davis' shot was a bit off in the win, he provided solid results on defense with eight grabs off the glass and three blocked shots. Davis was expected to see limited minutes in the preseason, but he's obviously feeling healthy enough to put in some work in early October.

  • Dalton Knecht SF | LAL

Lakers' Dalton Knecht: Logs 34 minutes in victory

Knecht compiled 13 points (5-16 FG, 2-10 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and a steal across 34 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 win over the Bucks.

Knecht had difficulty finding the bottom of the basket on most of his perimeter shots, but the 2024 first-round pick logged the most minutes on the floor Thursday and seems to be getting every opportunity to prove his worth. The Tennessee product's chances for breaking into the first unit are slim, but he seems to have an inside track to a good deal of reserve work.

  • Rui Hachimura PF | LAL

Lakers' Rui Hachimura: Leads team with 14 points

Hachimura totaled 14 points (6-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 0-1 FT), five rebounds, two steals and one assist across 24 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 win over the Bucks.

Hachimura started once again in the frontcourt with Anthony Davis, a trend that could continue into the regular season. Although Jarred Vanderbilt and Christian Wood are still on the roster, Hachimura seems to have the definitive edge over this teammates and the confidence of new coach JJ Redick.

  • Keyonte George SG | UTA

Jazz's Keyonte George: Jazz optimistic about injury

George (knee) will get an MRI on Friday, but the Jazz are optimistic that the injury will not prevent him from playing in the regular-season opener against the Grizzlies on Oct. 23, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.

George suffered a mild left knee sprain during the third quarter of Tuesday's win over the Mavericks, and while the Jazz are confident he won't have to miss time once their regular season begins, an MRI will provide a more precise diagnosis. George is a pivotal piece on the offensive scheme of the Jazz both on a short-term and long-term picture, and he averaged 13.0 points with 4.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game as a rookie in 2023-24 across 75 regular-season contests.

  • Delon Wright SG | MIL

Bucks' Delon Wright: Dealing with shoulder problem

Wright didn't play in Thursday's preseason loss against the Lakers due to a right shoulder contusion, head coach Doc Rivers told Eric Nehm of The Athletic.

Rivers stated that Wright isn't expected to miss much time, but it seems he doesn't have a timetable for his return. The injury occurred during Wednesday's practice when Wright was hit with a hard screen, and it's unclear if he'll recover in time to suit up for the Bucks' next preseason game against the Bulls on Monday.

  • Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Explodes for 25 points

Mathurin posted 25 points (8-12 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds and an assist across 19 minutes off the bench in Thursday's 129-117 preseason win over the Cavaliers.

Mathurin was one of the standout performers of Thursday's slate across The Association, and it seems the former Arizona forward is approaching the 2024-25 campaign with a chip on his shoulder following the injury woes that limited him to just 59 regular-season appearances in the previous 2023-24 campaign. Mathurin averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 26.1 minutes in those 59 contests, and he could be a solid weapon off the bench for the Pacers, whereas his usage might end up making him a reliable fantasy asset as well.

  • Jarace Walker PF | IND

Pacers' Jarace Walker: Perfect from field Thursday

Walker notched 12 points (3-3 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds and an assist across 18 minutes off the bench in Thursday's 129-117 preseason win over the Cavaliers.

Walker was one of several solid contributors off the bench for the Pacers in this game, as no starter played more than 18 minutes. Walker is competing for a bench role as a frontcourt option, and this outing might have assured him some extra looks in the upcoming preseason games. Walker made 33 regular-season appearances off the bench as a rookie in 2023-24, averaging 3.6 points and 1.9 rebounds across 10.3 minutes per game.

  • Myles Turner C | IND

Pacers' Myles Turner: Productive in preseason debut

Turner finished with 12 points (5-10 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three rebounds, two assists and a block across 16 minutes in Thursday's 129-117 preseason win over the Cavaliers.

Turner made his preseason debut after missing the game against the Hawks on Tuesday due to a knee problem, and the big man made his presence felt on both ends of the court. Indiana will try to be cautious in case the knee bothers Turner again, but if that's not the case, he's penciled in as the starting center for Opening Night against the Pistons on Oct. 23.
