Hatakka had surgery to repair his injured shoulder and will be sidelined indefinitely, the Devils announced Thursday. Hatakka seems like a strong candidate for long-term injured reserve at this point. The fact that New Jersey couldn't offer a clearer recovery timeline certainly doesn't bode well for a short-term absence. Considering the 23-year-old defenseman logged just 12 regular-season appearances last year, he likely would have been headed to the minors to start the 2024-25 campaign even without his shoulder injury.... Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Placed on IR
Hatakka (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, retroactive to Sept. 24. Hatakka sustained an injury that was worse than day-to-day in late September. The 23-year-old defenseman's placement on IR suggests he'll miss Opening Night versus the Maple Leafs on Thursday, but he is eligible to return whenever he's healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Dealing with injury
Hatakka is dealing with an injury that is considered more significant than day-to-day, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Friday. Hatakka was already likely to struggle to make the Devils' Opening Night roster, and this injury will only make it harder for him. The 23-year-old defenseman has earned four assists over 21 career NHL games in parts of two seasons. If his injury lingers into the regular season, he could begin the year on season-opening injured reserve.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Agrees to one-year contract
Hatakka signed a one-year, two-way contract with New Jersey on Monday. Hatakka notched five goals and 20 points in 48 regular-season appearances with AHL Utica in 2023-24. He also contributed two assists, 12 shots on goal, 12 blocked shots and 14 hits in 12 NHL outings with the Devils last campaign. The 23-year-old defender will battle for a depth spot during New Jersey's training camp but may spend most of 2024-25 in the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Returned to minors
Hatakka was reassigned to AHL Utica on Monday. Hatakka's demotion could be a sign that Jonas Siegenthaler (concussion) will be ready to play versus the Penguins on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Hatakka has played in 12 NHL contests this season, registering two assists, 14 hits and 12 shots on goal while averaging 14:39 of ice time per game.... See More ... See Less -

Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Brought up from minors
Hatakka was recalled from AHL Utica on Wednesday. Hatakka's addition to the roster doesn't bode well for Jonas Siegenthaler (upper body), who was injured in Monday's matchup with the Rangers. For his part, the 23-year-old Hatakka figures to compete with Nick DeSimone for the final spot on the blue line if Siegenthaler can't play against Dallas on Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Sent down to AHL

Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Recalled from minors
Hatakka was brought up from AHL Utica on Thursday. Hatakka was acquired by the Devils as part of the Timo Meier trade last season but has yet to get into an NHL game for his new club. With the Comets, the 23-year-old defenseman has notched two goals and seven helpers in 28 contests. If he does play versus Columbus on Friday, Hatakka would see his first NHL minutes since 2021-22 when he was with San Jose.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Santeri Hatakka: Traded to Devils
San Jose traded Hatakka, Timo Meier (upper body), Timur Ibragimov, Zachary Emond, Scott Harrington and a fifth-round pick to New Jersey on Sunday in exchange for Fabian Zetterlund, Nikita Okhotyuk, Andreas Johnsson, Shakir Mukhamadullin and draft three picks, including a 2023 first. Hatakka has nine games of NHL experience but hasn't seen any time with the Sharks this season. The 22-year-old blueliner has two assists in eight AHL games this season. He'll fill a depth role in New Jersey's organization.... See More ... See Less -

Sharks' Santeri Hatakka: Summoned by Sharks

Sharks' Santeri Hatakka: Sent to AHL affiliate
Hatakka was assigned to AHL San Jose on Thursday. Hatakka hasn't played since Nov. 18 versus St. Louis, so he'll head to the minors to get some much-needed playing time. The 20-year-old rookie has picked up one helper through seven top-level appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Santeri Hatakka: Grabs first NHL assist
Hatakka recorded an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Flames. Hatakka set up Logan Couture's third-period tally, which stood as the game-winner. The helper was Hatakka's first in four games at the NHL level. The 20-year-old Finn was often a healthy scratch to start the year, and he'll likely return to that role or be sent down to AHL San Jose once the Sharks get their regular blueliners out of the league's COVID-19 protocols....
