Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Can't pull team out of spiral
Luukkonen made 23 saves in a 5-2 loss to Utah on Saturday.
The Sabres are on a skid -- they've lost six straight games and been outscored 21-11 in that span. Luukkonen himself hasn't won since Nov. 22; he's 0-3-2 in that span with 18 goals allowed. UPL is a talented guy, but that talent can't save a team that's in a spiral. Park him on your bench until the Sabres start to get their game back.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Strong in OT loss
Luukkonen made 28 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Jets on Thursday.
Luukkonen played a strong game and came within a hair of stopping the eventual winner -- he slammed the door shut on the initial chance off the rush, but Adam Lowry picked up the rebound near the right post and hammered it home. Luukkonen has scuffled a bit lately -- he's 0-2-2 in his last four games with 13 goals allowed after going 5-0-0 in his previous five outings. Luukkonen is a solid fantasy netminder and will play a crucial role in the Sabres' postseason chances.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Late collapse in stunning loss
Luukkonen turned aside 36 shots in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Avalanche.
The Sabres seemed to have the game in the bag when they jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than 12 minutes into the first period, but Buffalo completely collapsed in the third, getting outshot 17-7. Luukkonen tried desperately to stem the tide, but all four Colorado goals in the final frame came either on rebounds his defense couldn't clear, or on deflections. Luukkonen is 0-2-1 over his last three starts, but since the beginning of November, he's delivered a stellar 2.25 GAA and .919 save percentage in 10 outings.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Unable to withstand Vancouver
Luukkonen conceded four goals on 22 shots in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Canucks.
Luukkonen allowed more than two goals in a game for just the second time across nine appearances in November. The 25-year-old has provided stability between the pipes for the league's youngest roster in the Sabres, but he'll get a night off in the second half of a back-to-back Saturday -- James Reimer will start on the road against the Islanders. Luukkonen has an 8-5-2 record, .909 save percentage and 2.54 GAA over 16 appearances.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Brilliant performance in loss
Luukkonen made 28 saves in a 1-0 loss to Minnesota on Wednesday.
UPL was brilliant all night long -- he had to be because he got zero help from his teammates. The only goal he allowed was a one-timer from Kirill Kaprizov that finished off a 4-on-1 rush. Luukkonen had a tough first three games to the season, but he's really dialed in his game since then. His 2.45 GAA and .914 save percentage in 15 starts are better than what he delivered in his breakout 2023-24. UPL is the reason the Sabres are within a stone's throw from a postseason spot at the quarter pole of the season.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Earns shutout in return
Luukkonen recorded a 23-save shutout in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Kings.
Luukkonen missed about a week with an undisclosed injury, but a light schedule in that span meant he only sat out two games. The 25-year-old was excellent in his return, earning his first shutout of the season and his fourth win in his last six appearances, a span in which he's allowed more than two goals just one time. Luukkonen is up to a 7-4-1 record with a 2.61 GAA and a .910 save percentage through 13 outings, numbers roughly in line with his breakout performance from 2023-24. He should operate as the Sabres' No. 1 goalie moving forward. The team wraps up its California trip with a back-to-back featuring games in Anaheim on Friday and San Jose on Saturday, so expect Luukkonen and James Reimer to split those starts.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Patrolling crease Wednesday
Luukkonen will defend the blue paint on the road versus the Kings on Wednesday, per NHL.com.
Prior to getting hurt, Lukkonenen had started nine of the Sabres' last 10 games, and he posted a 6-2-0 record to go with a 2.54 GAA during that time. While the Finnish netminder should get back to seeing a heavy workload moving forward, the addition of James Reimer to the goalie room should provide the coaching staff more confidence to give Luukkonen the occasional night off outside of just back-to-backs.

Luukkonen (undisclosed) is healthy and available, allowing the team to send Devon Levi down to the minors, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Luukkonen missed Buffalo's last two games due to his undisclosed injury but should be available to play again. The 25-year-old netminder hasn't been confirmed as the starter for Wednesday's matchup with the Kings, but fantasy managers can probably expect him to feature in that one before splitting the back-to-back against the Ducks and Sharks on Friday and Saturday, respectively, with James Reimer.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Considered day-to-day
Head coach Lindy Ruff said Wednesday that Luukkonen (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Luukkonen started Monday's game against the Canadiens but was replaced by Devon Levi to begin the third period. He was banged up during Sunday's practice, which contributed to his removal from Monday's game, but Ruff said that Luukkonen is a possibility to play Thursday against St. Louis. Even if Luukkonen sits out Thursday's home game, it doesn't appear as though he'll be forced to miss substantial time.
