The 20-year-old blueliner also earned multiple hits and blocked shots in a game for the first time since Jan. 25. Hutson ended a five-game slump when he helped out on a Cole Caufield tally in the second period. Prior to the skid, Hutson had earned at least one point in nine straight contests. The 20-year-old defenseman had largely avoided running streaky in the first half of the campaign. Hutson helped out on Juraj Slafkovsky's goal in the third period, which tied the game at 4-4. The assist extended Hutson's point streak to eight games (one goal, 11 assists). The 20-year-old defenseman has yet to hit the rookie wall, putting up 38 points, 52 shots on net, 62 blocked shots, 26 PIM and a minus-10 rating through 46 appearances in a top-pairing role.

Hutson extended a point streak to seven games when he was the primary helper on Patrik Laine's power-play tally. The 20-year-old matched the franchise record for longest point streak by a rookie defenseman. The dynamic Hutson has one goal and 10 assists (four on the power play) during his latest scoring binge. He had done a nice job whittling away at what was a minus-16 rating as recently as Dec. 20; Hutson entered the game with a plus-12 rating over the previous 12 outings before Saturday's unfortunate turn of events.

Hutson recorded an assist, one shot on net, one block, one hit and two PIM in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Hutson's rising blast from the point was tipped in by Alex Newhook and gave Montreal the go-ahead goal midway through the third period. The helper gives him assists in six straight. During that stretch, the rookie blueliner has 10 points (nine assists), including two three-point efforts. His 36 points for the season leads all rookies and ranks tied for sixth overall among defensemen.

Hutson has a goal and eight assists during his five-game point streak, which includes a pair of three-point efforts. The 20-year-old picked up a helper in each period Tuesday, assisting on goals by Mike Matheson, Kirby Dach and Cole Caufield. For the season, Hutson is up to 35 points (14 on the power play), 49 shots on net, 56 blocked shots, 21 hits, 22 PIM and a minus-4 rating over 43 appearances. He looks like the real deal while occupying spots on the top pairing and first power-play unit, so fantasy managers shouldn't hesitate to roster him or have him in their active lineup.

It's the first three-point performance of the rookie's career, although Hutson needed a little help on the goal -- his passing attempt from the corner instead deflected into the back of the net off Quinn Hughes' skate. Hutson has three multi-point efforts across his last 10 games, a stretch in which he's popped for two goals and 10 points, including six power-play helpers.

He's a regular on the second power-play unit, but there's a chance he could eventually play alongside Mike Matheson on the top unit.
