    I am a romantic at heart but somehow had never seen the Notebook. Did last night and oh man I'm still crying. Terribly sad but also wonderful. The little things nowadays please me. Like the Red Wings not being offered at -1 yesterday but now are (not the best segue). The reason being this ML was around -250 at open but has dropped a fair amount. Not really sure why. San Jose is in the second of a B2B but has been playing well, so this certainly might push (or lose, I suppose). But netminder Yaroslov Askarov -- I'm assuming it will be him since he didn't go Thursday -- has been awful of late after a great start to the year.

    Analysis

    Probably wise to wait for lineups, but it's just so tough to win back-to-back games in one of these baseball-type series (if all generally equal) that the NBA has been using since the COVID season to cut down on travel. Cleveland smashed the Sixers on Wednesday in Philly, and I expect a major response tonight from the home side. We do know that Darius Garland and Sam Merrill already are out for the visitors. I refuse to mention the injury status of a certain 7-footer from Cameroon/Kansas for Philadelphia.

    Analysis

    This was a very competitive game two weeks ago in Chicago when Dayton survived 70-68, but hardly sure Loyola does as well in the rematch. The Ramblers have been stumbling ever since, regressing back to early-season form when breaking extremely slow from the gate. Three more losses have ensued, including a heavy beating absorbed at GW last weekend. The defense has softened, and top scorer G Justin Moore missed the midweek loss to George Mason, though frosh Nic Anderson stepped in to score 17 in his first start. The Flyers, however, continue to win, 4-0 in A-10 action, and ready to extend the margin behind sr. G Javon Bennett (16.6 ppg), who scored 24 in the first meeting. Play Dayton.

    Analysis

    That crazy gambling indictment Thursday regarding basketball fixing included some DePaul guys but not current. I remember Antonio Blakeney as he also played a bit for the Bulls. You get paid to play a kid's game and you still cheat. Sad. Can't say I ever bet on a Chinese Basketball Association game. Apparently, I was missing out. As for this, Chris Holtmann has done a fine job turning this downtrodden program around. DePaul isn't a threat to win anything but much better overall. I'm not sure what has happened to Marquette, usually so well-coached by Shaka Smart and having made four straight NCAA Tournaments. Terrible this year. Maybe kids these days don't want to go to Milwaukee. I don't blame them. Eat it Packers!

    Analysis

    Bot quite as much aura of invincibility surrounding the Avs after losses in three of their last five, including Wednesday night in Denver against the visiting Maple Leafs. The Preds enter Ball Arena having pulled to the brink of a wild card spot in the West after an extended uptick that's seen Nashville win 16 of its past 24. Though the Preds have drooped two of three vs. the Avs, they did beat them in a shootout 4-3 on December 9 as Juuse Saros saved all three shots after Ryan O'Reilly converted for Nashville. Saros likely back in the nets tonight for the Preds, who have won their last six with Juuse that went into OTs or shootouts. Play Preds on Puck Line.
