Top Matt Duchene News

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Inks four-year extension

Duchene signed a four-year, $18 million contract extension with Dallas on Thursday.

Duchene was outstanding last season, registering 30 goals and 52 assists, his second-best regular season in his NHL career. The 34-year-old had 27 points on the power play as well as 152 shots on goal. Duchene struggled during the playoffs with only one goal, five assists and a minus-16 rating across 18 postseason appearances.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Nets go-ahead goal

Duchene scored a power-play goal and went minus-2 in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Oilers in Game 1.

The third-period tally ended a 17-game goal drought for Duchene, dating back to April 10. His goal Wednesday also stood as the game-winner. The center has earned all six of his points this postseason on the power play while adding 18 shots on net, 11 hits, 12 blocked shots and a minus-11 rating over 14 appearances. Duchene was a point-per-game player in the regular season, so the Stars will want Wednesday's effort to spark his offense in the rest of the Western Conference Finals.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Helps out on power play

Duchene notched a power-play assist in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Jets in Game 4.

Duchene had the secondary helper on Mikael Granlund's hat-trick-clinching tally in the third period. The 34-year-old Duchene has earned two assists over four games in the second round. He's at five helpers this postseason, all of which have come on the power play. The center has added 14 shots on net, nine hits, nine blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 11 playoff contests.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Registers power-play helper

Duchene posted a power-play assist in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Jets in Game 1.

Duchene still has yet to score this postseason, but all four of his assists in the playoffs have come over the last four games. The 34-year-old looks to be heating up, especially with the man advantage, which is where he's earned all four helpers. Duchene has added 11 shots on net, six blocked shots and a minus-7 rating over eight playoff outings.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Supplies pair of assists

Duchene notched two assists, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and two PIM in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 7.

Duchene set up back-to-back power-play goals that flipped a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead for the Stars. Other than this performance, it was a quiet first round for Duchene and the Stars' second line, which will need to change if they've got a deep run in mind. The 34-year-old was limited to three assists, 10 shots on net, four hits, six blocked shots and a minus-6 rating over seven contests versus the Avalanche.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Dishes helper in win

Duchene notched a power-play assist in Monday's 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5.

Duchene set up Wyatt Johnston's second goal of the contest at 16:48 of the second period. After a 30-goal, 82-point effort over 82 regular-season games, Duchene has been quiet in the playoffs -- this was his first point in five postseason games. He's added eight shots on net, four hits, three blocked shots and a minus-3 rating against the Avalanche. The Stars have mostly succeeded on thin margins so far, but getting Duchene's offense going would help them advance to the second round.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Garners assist in loss

Duchene logged an assist in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Predators.

Duchene snapped a three-game point drought with the helper on Mason Marchment's first-period tally. That little skid at the end of the season didn't stop Duchene from finishing at a point-per-game pace for the second time in his career. Both instances have been within the last four seasons. Duchene concludes the regular season with 30 goals, 52 assists, 152 shots on net and a plus-13 rating over all 82 contests. He'll be a key top-six forward in the playoffs, where the Stars are set to face his original NHL team, the Avalanche, in the first round.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Crosses 30-goal, 80-point marks

Duchene scored a power-play goal on three shots and added an assist in Tuesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Canucks.

Duchene's second-period tally got him to the 30-goal and 80-point marks for the season, and he added an assist on Mikael Granlund's empty-netter before the Stars' last-minute collapse. The 34-year-old Duchene has reached the 80-point mark for the second time in his career, both of which have come in the last four years. He's earned 27 of his 81 points on the power play while adding 149 shots on net and a plus-17 rating across 78 appearances.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Two helpers in Thursday's win

Duchene picked up two assists in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Predators.

The veteran center had a hand in the Stars' first two tallies of the night, including Mason Marchment's game-winner just 39 seconds into the third period. Duchene has gotten onto the scoresheet in nine of the last 10 games, amassing four goals and 11 points over that span, and he sits one goal short of his fourth career 30-goal campaign, and three points shy of reaching 80 for the second time.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Scores goal, takes five shots

Duchene scored a goal and registered five shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kraken.

Duchene has found the back of the net in three of his last five outings, and the veteran playmaker continues to have an excellent season as one of Dallas' primary offensive weapons. He notched 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 15 games in March, and while he might not record a new career high in points, there's no question this has been an excellent bounce-back season for the veteran. His 75 points in 74 games are the second-most points he's racked up in his career.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Pockets power-play helper

Duchene notched a power-play assist and two shots on goal in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Kraken.

Duchene has seen his role shift a few times in March due to trades and injuries, but he's remained as consistent as ever. The center has four goals and 10 assists, including four power-play helpers, over 14 outings this month. For the season, the 34-year-old is up to 28 goals, 46 helpers, 25 power-play points, 139 shots on net and a plus-14 rating across 73 contests. Duchene has played on one-year, $3 million contracts with Dallas in each of the last two years, though it wouldn't be shocking if he got a raise this summer, either from the Stars or another team.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Two-point effort in win

Duchene finished with a goal and an assist in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Flames.

Duchene has been remarkably consistent for the Stars, and he's finding ways to make an impact even when he's not scoring. The 34-year-old veteran, who's having an excellent season and has already notched the second-best point tally of his 16-year career, has cracked the scoresheet in all but three games since the beginning of March, tallying 13 points (four goals, nine helpers) in 13 games over that span.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Lights lamp in win

Duchene scored a goal in Monday's 3-0 win over the Wild.

Duchene's 27th goal of the campaign gave the Stars a 2-0 lead just 58 seconds after Wyatt Johnston's opener. Duchene has been outstanding in recent weeks, and while this goal snapped a three-game goalless drought, it also extended his point streak to five contests. Furthermore, Duchene has cracked the scoresheet in all but two of his appearances this month, tallying three goals and eight assists in 11 March contests.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Finds twine Sunday

Duchene scored a goal and tallied three shots on goal in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Avalanche.

Duchene's tally late in the third period was not only the second of two goals in a 20-second span but would also hold as the tying goal to send the game to overtime. The 34-year-old center is up to 26 goals, 67 points and 122 shots on net across 66 games this season. Duchene has been excellent since early February with eight goals and 18 points in his last 13 games. He has been a steady source of offense all season long and is a large part as to why Dallas' top nine is one of the league's best. Duchene has already passed his point total from last season and has a legitimate chance to reach the 80-point mark for the second time in his 16-year career. He is a must-start in fantasy for the playoffs.

  • Stars' Matt Duchene: Offers two assists in win

Duchene notched two assists, two shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Canucks.

Duchene helped out on goals by Mikael Granlund and Jason Robertson as the Stars pulled away with the win. With six points over five games in March, Duchene remains a strong source of offense from a second-line role. He crossed the 40-assist mark Sunday for the fifth time in his career and third time in four years. Duchene has 66 points (23 on the power play), 116 shots on net and a plus-11 rating through 64 contests overall, and he'll remain on the top power-play unit as long as Roope Hintz (face) is out of the lineup.
