Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Finds twine in loss
MacKinnon scored a goal on six shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 7.
MacKinnon scored seven times and added four assists over seven playoff contests, but the NHL's current playoff goals leader will go no further after the Avalanche were eliminated. The 29-year-old will undoubtedly be frustrated with another early exit -- the Avalanche haven't gotten out of the second round since their Stanley Cup title in 2022. He was superb with 32 goals, 116 points, 320 shots on net and a plus-25 rating over 79 regular-season appearances, and fantasy managers wishing to have him on their roster for next year will have to invest an early first-round pick to do that.

Prior to sitting out, the 29-year-old center was riding an eight-game point streak during which he compiled four goals and seven assists, including four power-play points. Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Officially out for road trip
MacKinnon (undisclosed) won't travel with the Avalanche ahead of their upcoming two-game road trip to close out the regular season, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports Friday.
MacKinnon missed Thursday's game against the Canucks due to an undisclosed injury, and he was already deemed doubtful for Colorado's final two regular-season games. He'll officially be sidelined for the back-to-back set over the weekend and will shift his focus toward getting healthy ahead of the postseason. The Avalanche have already clinched a playoff berth, so it seems likely that MacKinnon's absence is precautionary, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him return once postseason play begins.

Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Equals Colorado record
MacKinnon notched a power-play assist and six shots on goal in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Golden Knights.

Coincidentally, both MacKinnon and Sakic recorded that number of points in 870 games each. It's been a surge for MacKinnon late in 2024-25 -- he has four goals and seven assists during his eight-game point streak, giving him 116 points (38 on the power play), 320 shots on net, 58 blocked shots and a plus-25 rating across 79 appearances. He has up to three more chances to add to his totals, and if the Avalanche don't get any injured players back soon, MacKinnon may not have the opportunity to rest before the playoffs.
