Martin recorded an assist, two hits and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Capitals. Martin has played the last two games while Anthony Duclair (personal) takes a leave of absence from the team. The 35-year-old Martin's last point was an assist Nov. 7 versus the Senators. He spent the better part of the first three months of 2025 out of the lineup, though only five games in that span were due to a lower-body injury. Martin has two helpers, 12 shots on net, 73 hits, 10 PIM and an even plus-minus rating over 26 outings this season. He's definitely near the end of his NHL career, and it's unclear if he'll look to continue playing once he hits free agency this summer.... See More ... See Less

Islanders' Matt Martin: Removed from IR
Martin (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Saturday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Martin sat out five games after moving to the IR list. However, he was presumably a healthy scratch for 12 outings previously and won't be in the lineup for Saturday's matchup versus San Jose. Martin has one assist, 12 shots on goal, 15 blocked shots and 68 hits in 24 appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Dealing with lower-body issue
Martin, who was placed on injured reserve Monday, is dealing with a lower-body injury, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Martin has been out of the lineup since Jan. 16 versus the Flyers, so it's not immediately clear when he sustained his lower-body injury. Even when healthy, the veteran winger has struggled to break into the lineup, often serving as a healthy scratch. As such, few fantasy players are likely to be impacted by Martin's absence.... Islanders' Matt Martin: Surfaces on IR
Martin (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Monday, per the NHL media site. Martin hasn't been in the lineup for the last 12 games, making it unclear when he suffered an injury. He has one assist, 12 shots on goal, 15 blocked shots and 68 hits in 24 appearances this season. The Islanders may update his status before Tuesday's matchup against the Rangers.... See More ... Islanders' Matt Martin: Slips out of lineup again
Martin was scratched for the 10th consecutive contest in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Jets. Martin played in four straight games from Jan. 9-16, but his role has once again been reduced. The 35-year-old has just one assist to go with 68 hits, 12 shots on net and 10 PIM across 24 appearances this season. On the rare occasions he plays, he's been in a fourth-line role, so his fantasy value is minimal.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Playing time opens up again
Martin has played in each of the last two games after suiting up in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah. Hudson Fasching (upper body) is expected to miss a couple of weeks, opening the door for Martin to reclaim a spot on the fourth line. He had been scratched for eight straight games from Dec. 17 to Jan. 5. Martin has just one helper with 62 hits and a minus-2 rating over 22 appearances, so he's unlikely to be an option to most fantasy managers.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Steady role, lack of offense
Martin has gone 15 games without a point after failing to get on the scoresheet in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Kings. Martin has been scratched just once in that span. The 35-year-old has been a regular part of the Islanders' lineup on the fourth line, but as usual, he's bringing hits and little else. He has one assist, 11 shots on net, five PIM and 49 hits through 18 appearances this season. He may eventually be at risk of losing his spot to Hudson Fasching.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Hands out helper in win
Martin notched an assist in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Senators. Martin has not been a regularly in the lineup since officially re-signing with the Islanders on Oct. 26. He's played in just three of seven games since his signing, with his helper Thursday being his first point. He's added two shots on net, six hits, three blocked shots and a minus-1 rating. Martin is mostly a physical presence on the ice and a leader in the locker room, but he'll have to compete with Hudson Fasching, Pierre Engvall and Oliver Wahlstrom for the last forward spots in the lineup.... Islanders' Matt Martin: Signs with Islanders
Martin signed a one-year deal with the Islanders on Saturday. Martin played 57 regular-season games with the Islanders in 2023-24, tallying four goals, eight points and 151 hits. He spent training camp and the start of the year with the team on a professional tryout agreement. His patience paid off with a standard contract, and the organization added a veteran player for the bottom six.... See More ... See Less -
Matt Martin: Remains unsigned
Martin -- who continues to skate with the Islanders on a PTO -- will not be signed by the team even after Anthony Duclair (leg) suffered a long-term injury, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports Monday. At this point, Martin will probably end up skating with the team all the way up to the trade deadline, which is the last point when a player can sign with a team and still be eligible for the postseason. Until he puts pen to paper on a full NHL contract, Martin will just be an extra body at practice and ineligible to play in a game.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Signs PTO with Islanders
Martin (lower body) signed a professional tryout agreement with the Islanders on Friday, according to Stefen Rosner of NHL.com. Martin has spent 13 of his 15 NHL seasons with the Islanders, including the last six years. He had four goals, four assists and 151 hits in 57 regular-season games with the Islanders last season. He will compete for a spot on the fourth line during training camp.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Set for MRI
Martin (lower body) is expected to undergo an MRI in the coming days, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports Friday. Martin was sidelined for the final two postseason contests due to his lower-body issue. Unless the MRI results come back with something more serious, the team may not provide much of an update heading into the offseason. Even if there is a long-term concern that carries into the 2024-25 campaign, Martin's lack of offensive upside means a potential absence is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy players.... Islanders' Matt Martin: Unavailable for Game 5
Martin (lower body) won't play in Game 5 against the Hurricanes on Tuesday, according to Andrew Gross of Newsday. Martin, who didn't practice Monday, will miss his second straight contest. He has been credited with two shots on goal, three blocked shots, seven hits and 16 PIM in three outings this postseason. Simon Holmstrom or Ruslan Iskhakov will replace Martin in the lineup for Game 5.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Not playing Saturday
Martin (lower body) won't play Saturday in Game 4 versus Carolina, according to Stefen Rosner of NHL.com. Martin played through the injury in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes, logging just 8:16 of ice time. He has 16 PIM, seven hits and three blocked shots over three outings this postseason. Martin will be replaced in the lineup by Ruslan Iskhakov.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Expected to play Thursday
Martin (undisclosed) was in his usual spot during line rushes, indicating he'll play in Thursday's Game 3 versus the Hurricanes, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Martin has played on the fourth line throughout the campaign, so his presence in the lineup isn't likely to make a big impact in fantasy. The 34-year-old has no points, 19 hits and 21 PIM over his last 10 outings.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Game-time call against Canes
Martin will be a game-time decision versus Carolina for Game 3 on Thursday due to an undisclosed injury, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports. Martin averaged just 10:12 of ice time through the first two games of the series before picking up his undisclosed injury. If the veteran winger misses time, it's expected Ruslan Iskhakov will get a look on the fourth line, though both Oliver Wahlstrom and Simon Holmstrom could be in contention for a lineup spot as well.... Islanders' Matt Martin: Ready to rock
Martin (undisclosed) will play Saturday against the Rangers, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com. Martin will be back on the fourth line after being injured in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Canadiens. He has picked up four goals, four assists, 43 PIM and 147 hits in 54 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Leaves Thursday's game
Martin (undisclosed) left Thursday's game versus the Canadiens in the third period, Ethan Sears of the New York Post reports. Martin blocked a shot and didn't return to the contest. His status for Saturday's tilt versus the Rangers has yet to be determined and there was no update on him after the game.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Posts rare goal
Martin scored during Monday's 4-3 overtime win against the Flyers. That's the veteran's fourth goal and eighth point through 49 games on the campaign. With just 42 shots on net, Martin is taking less than a shot per game and averages only 9:19 of ice time per contest. The fourth-liner's offensive upside is limited.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Matt Martin: Set to play Thursday
Martin (lower body) is good to play Thursday versus Buffalo, according to Stefen Rosner of NHL.com. Martin missed Monday's 3-0 loss to LA due to the injury. He has two goals, five points, 31 PIM and 118 hits in 41 appearances in 2023-24. Martin is projected to serve on the fourth line in his return while Hudson Fasching will be a healthy scratch.... Stan Fischler@StanFischler3D agoThe @NYIslanders loss proves that there was not enough gas in the Band of Brothers' tank to overcome loss of their two starting goalies. Roy has taken them as far as the can go.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler4D agoFor the @NYIslanders Band of Brothers a win tonight over the @NYRangers would be a balm after a season of un-real injuries. Yet, nobly, the team has stayed above the. 500 mark. Not an easy task considering the many blows and Brock Nelson moving on at the homestretch.
-
Stan Fischler@StanFischler9D agoThe @NYIslanders have a HUGE test tomorrow at home vs. Ovechkin's @Capitals. Ovie could break Gretzky's record. On the other hand, an Isles win could prove that The Band of Brothers still are alive in the Wild Card Race. Win vs. Minny last night was encouraging. No quit in Isles

Stan Fischler@StanFischler16D agoTough sked for the @NYIslanders but, miraculously they're still in the Wild Card mix; just a point behind the @NYRangers with two games in hand. Band of Brothers must give it all that they've got since this ain't over yet.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler17D agoMajor challenges for the @Islanders Band of Brothers. Then again, that's what the NHL Homestretch is all about. And if you don't believe me, ask the @NYRangers. No matter how you shake it, this is an exciting Wild Card race.
