Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: On wrong side of shutout
Kochetkov allowed two goals on 21 shots in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Senators. The third goal was an empty-netter.
Kochetkov didn't get any help in this game, taking his third loss in five starts. The 25-year-old has allowed just two goals in each of the last two games, so he appears to be turning a corner in his performance, though the Hurricanes' offense hasn't been all that helpful lately with 13 goals scored over the last five contests. Kochetkov dropped to 12-5-0 with a 2.61 GAA and an .895 save percentage over 18 appearances. The Hurricanes' next game is Sunday versus the Blue Jackets.

Kochetkov will guard the home goal versus the Senators on Friday, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Kochetkov will look to win consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 17 and 20. The 25-year-old has gone 2-2-0 with 13 goals allowed on 95 shots over his last four outings. The Senators have scored 21 goals over their last seven games, going 4-2-1 in that span.

Hurricanes' Jack Drury: Requires surgery
Head coach Rod Brind'Amour said Thursday that Drury will undergo hand surgery and doesn't have a timetable to return, Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News reports.
Drury exited Tuesday's game against the Sharks, and Brind'Amour revealed Thursday that the 24-year-old broke a bone in his thumb and will undergo a procedure to address the issue. Over his first 28 appearances of the season, Drury had logged three goals, six assists, 19 blocked shots and 15 hits while averaging 13:09 of ice time. Tyson Jost will likely have a chance to see some playing time in Drury's absence.

Hurricanes' Riley Stillman: Back in NHL
Stillman was recalled from AHL Chicago on Thursday.
Stillman last played in the NHL during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring once while adding seven helpers in 50 games split between Buffalo and Vancouver. The 26-year-old defenseman has two assists and 11 PIM in seven AHL games this season. He will likely be a healthy scratch Friday versus Ottawa, barring any injuries on the Hurricanes' blue line as he has yet to make an appearance for Carolina in 17 previous games.

Hurricanes' Jack Roslovic: Deals helper Tuesday
Roslovic logged an assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Sharks.
Roslovic was in a top-line role for much of November, but he has since moved to the fourth line. His 10:18 of ice time Tuesday was a season low, which is not a good sign for his production in the short term. The 27-year-old has been impressive so far with 13 goals, four assists, 60 shots on net and a minus-2 rating through 28 appearances, putting him over halfway to exceeding the 31 points he earned across 59 games between the Blue Jackets and the Rangers in 2023-24.

Hurricanes' William Carrier: Posts helper in win
Carrier notched an assist and three hits in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Sharks.
Carrier snapped a nine-game point drought with the helper. He had eight shots on net, a minus-3 rating and 44 hits in that span, channeling the more physical elements of his playing style. The 29-year-old winger has six points, 26 shots, 90 hits and a plus-2 rating through 28 appearances this season, so a return to the 20-point mark seems unlikely, though not impossible.

Hurricanes' Brent Burns: Tallies in Tuesday's win
Burns scored a goal on three shots and blocked five shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Sharks.
Burns tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period. The 39-year-old has picked up three points and 16 shots on net over his last eight games, which isn't much, but it's better than the nine-game stretch that preceded it, which saw him earn no points and fire 12 shots on goal. The veteran defenseman has two goals, six assists, 56 shots, 40 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over 28 appearances, though he continues to average 21:32 of ice time in a top-four role.

Hurricanes' Shayne Gostisbehere: Stays hot with goal
Gostisbehere scored a goal on three shots and blocked three shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Sharks.
Gostisbehere opened the scoring at 4:26 of the first period. The defenseman has two goals and nine assists over his last eight games, with seven of those 11 points coming on the power play. The 31-year-old has been a good fit for the Hurricanes this season, racking up six goals, 25 points (17 on the power play), 55 shots on net, 25 hits, 22 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 28 appearances.

Hurricanes' Tyson Jost: Up from minors
Jost was called up from AHL Chicago on Wednesday.
Jost has four goals and nine points in 14 appearances with the Wolves in 2024-25. He's also scored a goal across seven outings with Carolina. Jost might draw into the Hurricanes' lineup Friday because Jack Drury is dealing with an upper-body injury.

Hurricanes' Jalen Chatfield: Pots game-winner Tuesday
Chatfield scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Sharks.
With less than three minutes left in the third period, Chatfield knocked down a clearing attempt and then flipped a knuckling shot through traffic that found its way under Vitek Vanecek's arm and into the back of the net. It was Chatfield's third goal of the season, but all three have come in the last 11 games, a stretch in which he's also supplied two helpers, 15 shots on net, 10 blocked shots, six hits and a plus-2 rating.

Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Collects 12th win
Kochetkov stopped 21 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Sharks.
He gave up tallies to Luke Kunin in the first and second periods, but Kochetkov shut the door in the third as Carolina rallied from a one-goal deficit. The 25-year-old netminder has alternated wins and losses over four starts since returning from a concussion, and on the season he's 12-4-0 over 17 appearances with a 2.64 GAA and .894 save percentage. With Frederik Andersen (knee) not expected back until some time in February, Kochetkov should continue to see a heavy workload.

Hurricanes' Jack Drury: Likely to miss time
Drury (upper body) is expected to miss time after leaving Tuesday's game versus the Sharks, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Drury was injured in the first period and didn't return to the game. It appears the Hurricanes will need to recall a forward ahead of Friday's game versus the Senators, though the team's tight cap situation could make things tricky. A firm timeline for Drury's absence is not yet available.

Hurricanes' Jack Drury: Hurt in Tuesday's contest
Drury (upper body) won't return to Tuesday's game versus the Sharks.
Drury was injured in the first period, though it's unclear what caused his issue. The 24-year-old should be considered day-to-day until further information is available. If he can't play Friday against the Senators, the Hurricanes will likely need to recall a player.

Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Set to start Tuesday
Kochetkov will guard the home goal versus the Sharks on Tuesday, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports.
Kochetkov will get a favorable matchup after dropping two of his previous three outings. He allowed 11 goals on 72 shots in that span. The Sharks are averaging 2.73 goals per game this season.

Hurricanes' Ty Smith: Headed down to minors
Smith was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Tuesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Smith's demotion is a little curious, as it will leave the Canes without an emergency depth option on the blue line ahead of Tuesday's matchup with San Jose. The 24-year-old defenseman has yet to make an appearance for Carolina, with his last NHL game coming back in 2022-23 when he was with Pittsburgh. This likely won't be the last time Smith is moved between the NHL and AHL this year.

Hurricanes' Ty Smith: Recalled by Carolina
Smith was recalled by the Hurricanes on Sunday, Walt Ruff of the team's official site reports.
Smith was sent to the AHL at the end of November, but he'll rejoin the Hurricanes to provide additional depth. He hasn't yet appeared in an NHL game this season, so Smith's unlikely to play a significant role during his upcoming stint with Carolina.
