  • Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis: Questionable with illness

Porzingis is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Knicks due to a non-COVID illness, Justin Turpin of WEEI.com reports. After sitting out Sunday's game against the Wizards, Porzingis remains in jeopardy of missing another contest against New York. With Al Horford (toe) already ruled out ahead of Wednesday's back-to-back game against Orlando, the Celtics could turn to Luke Kornet for a spot start down low. Kornet has averaged 9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 blocks in 27.7 minutes through 14 games as a starter this season.

He finished with 15 points (5-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one block in 23 minutes. The Celtics labeled the center as questionable to return after he returned to the bench after getting stitched back up, but he didn't check back into the game while the Celtics held a comfortable lead. • Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis: Sitting Wednesday

Porzingis has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Heat due to return-from-illness reconditioning, Zack Cox of the Boston Herald reports. Porzingis played in seven of the Celtics' last eight games after returning from an extended absence due to a viral infection, and he averaged 21.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 blocks in 29.3 minutes per contest over that span. He'll take a seat Wednesday as he continues to work on his conditioning, but he should be available to play against the Suns on Friday. With Porzingis and Al Horford (toe) both out, Luke Kornet and Neemias Queta should see the bulk of the big man minutes against Miami. However, Xavier Tillman could see some time in the rotation after starting Monday against the Grizzlies.

  • Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis: Scores efficiently in return

Porzingis (illness) recorded 24 points (9-16 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 5-6 FT), two rebounds and one block across 32 minutes Saturday in the Celtics' 115-113 win over the Nets. Though he didn't offer much of a multi-category impact Saturday, Porzingis' efficient scoring performance was a welcome sight for fantasy managers after he had missed Boston's last eight games with a non-COVID-related illness. Though Porzingis was expected to be on a playing-time restriction Saturday, he ended up exceeding his season-long average of 28.9 minutes per game. Porzingis will now get two days to rest up and recover before the Celtics return to action with a rematch with the Nets in Boston on Tuesday.

  • Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis: Present for shootaround Friday

Porzingis (illness), who is listed as questionable for Friday's game against Miami, participated in Friday's shootaround, Noa Dalzell of SBNation.com reports. Porzingis has missed the club's last seven outings due to a lingering illness, though his participation in shootaround bodes well for his availability. If the big man is unable to suit up, Neemias Queta and Luke Kornet are candidates for an uptick in playing time behind Al Horford (toe), who is probable to suit up. Over his last five appearances, Porzingis has averaged 17.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.2 steals across 30.8 minutes per contest.

Porzingis (illness) is questionable for Friday's contest against Miami, Taylor Snow of the Celtics' official site reports. Porzingis is in danger of missing his eighth consecutive game due to illness, which would also be his 35th absence overall this season, but him remaining questionable instead of being ruled out immediately is an encouraging sign that he may return soon. However, if Porzingis can't go Friday, expect Al Horford, who is probable to play with a toe injury, to remain in the starting lineup, while Luke Kornet and Neemias Queta fill in the remaining minutes as the team's big men.
